If you’ve been following for a while, you may already know that our name means “an owl’s house,” in part because we hope to be a little older and wiser every day like an owl. We also love the idea of sending mail with magical handmade items all over, like owl mail.

Quilted hearts swirl past a ribbon of Carol Bowles' marble pattern, roses, and the night sky in this stunning decor egg.

This week, I want to highlight the amazing Marbles pattern that Carol does- on bowls and eggs and soon on bags, pillows, and scarves! Here is a little peek at her marbles on blue, swirling behind this heart pattern.

One of many things I love about this egg is that it incorporates the marble pattern and is also part of the series of hearts Carol has done on eggs and bowls in the past few years. The perfect marriage of elements of Carol’s style, this egg is colorful, joyful, and imaginative.

The Beatrix Talisman has been on my mind this week, because Carol and I watched “Miss Potter” together recently. A biopic of Beatrix Potter, it beautifully intertwines the story of her work with the story of her life.

I think this talisman is the perfect homage to Miss Potter. The blue-green heart in the center is offset by red elements, and the gear-like elements at the back remind me of the way she was always thinking of stories, paying attention to details, and fighting for her art. This is the perfect brooch or wall hanging for the creative person in your life.

This amazing display bowl sold on our Etsy site before I had a chance to post it on social media, but I think it deserves its time to shine, so I’m posting it now.

Titled “This is the Way,” this bowl with a locked heart design is inspired by the lore of a galaxy far, far away. The central heart is surrounded by flower buds and a single flower in bloom. Will the key to this heart be found?

Did you know we have greeting cards with Carol’s prints? This one is extra special to me because I had a huge print of it in my room growing up.

A patch of irises obscures a tiny fairy treehouse with an inviting candlelit dinner. Fairies return home over hills, mountains, and the tiniest stream complete with a trout leaping through the air.

The cozy sense of this scene was always so comforting, and paired with the creativity and sense of wonder this inspires in me, this is a favorite piece of my Nana’s. It reminds me so much of the story of the Cottingley Fairies by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and it makes my garden feel like a magical place.

The three little bears going back to their idyllic cabin in the woods. 🐻🐻🐻

I always get nostalgic for fall this time of year, and this bowl is totally pulling me in that direction. The fairy core feeling of returning home to a warm bowl of porridge on a crisp day sounds extra appealing as we’re still struggling through weeks of 100* or more. Meanwhile, indoors, the air conditioning blows so cold that I find myself reaching for sweaters and warm socks.

Like Goldilocks, I’m really seeking balance- and I know fall days (when they finally come) will be just right. For now, it’s a matter of patience, and finding things that are “just right” in the moment.

How are you surviving these dog days of summer, friends? Dreaming of fall? Escaping into a fairy tale? Bundling up in the AC?
