Jump-Start company members Jessica Hawkins and Giomara Bazaldua have invited Alejandra Sánchez Alanís, Henry de Leon, Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez, Julius Hunter and Sofia Sepulveda, to each share their abundance of wisdom earned through years of navigating identity, building community, and forging spaces of belonging in San Antonio. Theirs are stories of courage and survival - but just as importantly, they are stories of joy. Q***R STRENGTH reminds us that q***r joy is not only possible, it’s essential, radiant, and revolutionary. STORIES WE CARRY : Q***R STRENGTH is produced by Giomara Bazaldua and Jessica Hawkins with assistance by Joyous Windrider Jimenez. Q***R STRENGTH is hosted by Jess and includes a special dance performance by Gio.

STORIES WE CARRY: 4 WOMEN for REAL

The imagined conversations, musings and dramatic encounters of four women comprise the second iteration of Jump-Start’s spring storytelling series. 4 WOMEN for REAL will be presented at Jump-Start Theater, 710 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, Texas 78201. Evening performances are at 8:00pm on Saturday May 9, Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16. Matinee performances are at 3:00pm on Sunday May 10 and Sunday May 17, 2026. Jump-Start company member Chuck Squier invited four artists to join him in creating a performance piece for STORIES WE CARRY. He says, “The idea for this show came to me when I realized how many of my friends tell great stories that I believe are stage-worthy!” Over several months, the women developed their individual scenes through Chuck’s workshopping process of writing, discovery and inquiry. The title, 4 WOMEN for REAL, describes the artistic work of Kimberlyn Montford, Felice Garcia, Michele Brinkley and Linda Cuellar.

4 WOMEN for REAL is produced and directed by Chuck with the assistance of Anna Harwin, musical accompaniment by Sarah Rocha, lighting design by Tyler Cozart and sound design by Sarah Tijerina. Flyer by Georgie Lee

Don’t miss *I DON’T Regret MY Abortion*, an original play by Anna De Luna, premiering April 10-11 at Jump Start Theater (8pm). Anna shares her personal story about an unplanned pregnancy and the choice she made 25 years ago, shedding light on the stigma Latinas face around abortion.

This powerful, honest performance blends photos, video, and live theater to open up important conversations about reproductive rights and racial inequities. Plus, stick around for the post-show discussion to hear from Anna and director Marisela Barrera.
