Official Page of The Chicken Farm Art Center, founded in 1971 as a place for artists to live and work, with help from a lot of friends, the Art Center has grown into a premier West Texas / San Angelo attraction. Live Ceramic Sculpting Demonstration: A Portrait of Roger Allen

Join us on Friday, September 4th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Chicken Farm Art Center Gallery & Classroom for a live demonstration with sculptor Jeff Gottfried. This event is FREE and open to the public. Bring a friend or a date!

Watch as Jeff transforms clay into a recognizable likeness of the legendary Roger Allen using only photographs. He will walk us through his complete process—from building an armature and utilizing proportional calipers to blocking in major anatomical forms and facial musculature.

Bring your questions and watch the portrait come to life in real time!

🌟 Happy Birthday, Roger Allen. 🌟

Today, we celebrate the man who looked at an old chicken farm and saw something much bigger-a place where artists could live, create, teach, gather, and share their work with the world.

In 1971, Roger Allen and his friends began turning that dream into reality. More than 50 years later, the Chicken Farm is still filled with the things Roger loved most: art, artists, friendship, curiosity, and community.

From his pottery and the story of the StarKeeper to the countless artists he encouraged along the way, Roger left San Angelo a remarkable gift.

His words still feel like the perfect way to celebrate him:

“Sharing the Art Spirit." ✨

This month we feature Dave Engelman, a San Angelo-based, multi-instrumentalist, and music educator with a lifelong passion for music. As a performer, orchestra teacher, and music director, Dave has performed and led music in a wide variety of settings, from the classroom to the stage.

With a background spanning multiple instruments and musical styles, Dave brings a versatile approach to every performance. Whether performing solo, collaborating with other musicians, or directing an ensemble, he enjoys creating music that connects with audiences and makes people want to listen, sing along, and have a good time.
