Fishing Party 12x12, I took the photo reference for this painting when the NWWS Plein Air group was at Luther Burbank Park.
Our family sort of adopted the grey heron as our symbol over the years. There have been funny incidents like one pooped on Emory at the Ballard locks when we were on our first house hunting trip to Seattle and Lydia’s Zoology big sister gave her a paddle with a heron painted on it. We would spot them at pivital moments and take it as a reminder to be patient but hopeful too. We saw them fairly regularly in MI during the summers. Now that we live on a lake in the PNW we get to see them frequently year round. I am enjoying my year of focusing on painting flowers but I think next year will be animals and there will will be a lot of herons. Do you or your family have a symbol or spirit animal of sorts?
