Though Fringe is officially over, there's one more Bring Your Own Venue show tonight!

"A Congress of Flying Monkeys" from Lords of Misrule takes place at 6 p.m. Dreamscapes at 16 N. Rio Grande St. in The Gateway.

An interactive play in which the audience serves as the Congresspeople of the Wonderful Land of Oz! Free to attend!

Donate money during the show to create legislative Chaos as Dorothy, Tin Man, Lion, Scarecrow and ToTo recount their story at a congressional hearing.

Sure, Oz The Great And Powerful could grant their wishes, but a system of Checks and Balances means that Oz needs the approval of the Congress of Flying Monkeys first.

Donations change how the actors have to perform, and the donations benefit the SLC Bail Fund to help them in their mission to get people out of ICE detention and reunited with their families.

Lords of Misrule Theatre Co formed unofficially in 2019 with the closure of The Road Home shelter in downtown Salt Lake City. A group of friends from the Salt Lake Community College theatre program got together and devised a unique show based on mutual-aid and community support.

The show was called The Lord of Misrule and it pioneered the donation based theater model they continue to use today. Instead of buying a ticket, the audience donates money to a charitable cause or community aid group to change how the actors have to perform the show.

Lords of Misrule shows have raised money for The Road Home, Our Unsheltered Relatives, The U of U Prison Education Project, AAMP Utah, and Save The Kids Group.

Lords of Misrule Theatre Co is part of AAMP Utah, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting alternative arts and music with a focus on access.

The theater company holds no-cost improv and acting classes every Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at Mark
of the Beastro. More info at www.misruletheatre.com.

As we enter the final weekend of Fringe, we have one more Artist Spotlight!

There will be two more shows in Alliance Theater Main Hall on Saturday, August 1 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. (this show will feature ASL Interpretation).

Inspired by The Neo-Futurists, "To Be Frank" shatters the fourth wall as audiences hurtle through a fast and furious hour of raw confession, absurdist comedy, spoken-word poetry, movement, improv, and beautiful chaos. Diving deep into their lived experience and fueled by a desire to create the representation they have longed to see onstage, 11 actors have spent two weeks transforming moments from their lives into 25 completely original pieces. They will attempt to perform all 25 in 60 minutes with one catch: the audience gets to choose which piece they want to see next.
