We want to take a moment to thank everyone who reached out to us to give their condolences and share stories about Doug. It means the world to us and especially his family to know how much he meant to all of you.

If you knew Doug, then you know what a beautiful soul he was. His positivity was infectious and he never failed to crack a smile. Doug lived every day like it was a celebration.

While our hearts are broken, we want to celebrate the love and joy that Doug brought into our lives. Doug’s family has requested our help in sharing the announcement of a celebration of his life on September 12th, 2026 at the Edgemont Church Park in Provo, Utah. His family would like to everyone to know that all are welcome. We encourage anyone and everyone who knew Doug, even in the smallest way, to attend.

We’ve been sitting on this one for a few days. There is so much we want to say, but still the words have not come easily to us. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of fellow artist and friend Doug Robertson.

Doug was only with us for a few short months, but in those months he made himself family at Big Deluxe. It’s hard to imagine a time when he wasn’t with us.

We know this news hasn’t just devastated his family and us, it’s devastated anyone who was lucky enough to be a part of his life. We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Doug’s family and got the chance to swap stories about him. There were a lot of tears, but also there was a lot of laughter. It was a true testament to the type of man that Doug was.

Although he truly loved the studio and tattooing, he was so much more than a tattooer. He loved his family. He loved life. He loved people, and he made friends everywhere he went. If you knew Doug, you’re probably laughing right now because that’s the person he was. He loved traveling. He loved snowboarding and skateboarding. If you had a book recommendation, he wanted to read it. He was so damn smart and he wanted to learn all the things, no matter what they were. He spoke three languages fluently and would have learned more if life had only given him the time. Everything he did, he did full throttle and there wasn’t a set of brakes in the world that would slow him down. Doug was a shining light in the dark and he was taken from us far, far too soon.

It is with the family’s permission that we share these photos of Doug’s life so we can always remember the vibrant person that he was. In the coming days, we will be posting information about Doug’s celebration of life. The family is requesting that anyone who knew him please attend if you are able to. If you’ve ever been tattooed by him, they also ask you to attend if you are able. Because Doug would love nothing more than to know he was surrounded by the people he loved and those whose lives he touched for his final send off.

This piece represents the bond between these three people, which can never be broken. Set in their spot at Ashley National Forest, preserved in their hearts.
