Yoga 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Dance 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
(We are supported by donations and volunteers)

Why? Ecstatic Dance is a freeform movement space where:
dance expands
spirit activates

beauty fl

ows
communities collaborate
ritual is reinvented
harmony resonates
The beat deepens as an electronic tapestry of world rhythms weave us together as individuals within a greater family. Can I bring kids? Yes, kids of all ages from infant to 100 years old are welcome. We offer free childcare during dance. Why is there no alcohol? The reason that we have made Ecstatic Dance a sober space is to allow for those that come to learn how to connect with one another without talking and without having to be intoxicated by anything other than the music. We are not “against” alcohol. Many people who come do drink alcohol, just not during Ecstatic Dance. How often is Ecstatic Dance? Provided there is no catastrophe, Ecstatic Dance is every single Wednesday year-round, regardless of holidays. How much is Ecstatic Dance? Admission is $20, however, no donation is turned away. If you cannot afford $20, please contact us for volunteer opportunities or other forms of exchange. We rely on the support of our community to run. We support our artists, DJs, Yoga Teachers, Body Healers, and the like, so you can feel confident that whatever your contribution is going towards your community. If you would like to make any additional donations of time or money, we would be extremely grateful. What if I’ve never danced? What if I suck at dancing? Ecstatic dance is not a competition or somewhere to go to show off, although it can look like some dancers succeed at that without any intention or effort on their part. Come and move any way the music moves you. There is no structure to Ecstatic Dance. Watch how the kids move; sometimes they just chase each other around... feel free to follow them. Is Ecstatic Dance just a group of pretentious hippies? Ecstatic Dance has one of the most diverse demographics I have ever seen, from infants to senior citizens, from doctors and CEOs to the traveling bohemian living in their van just passing through. Is it worth coming if I can’t make it at 6pm? Yes! Ecstatic Dance starts for you when you get there. There is no “class” and no set time to arrive. Many people that come look forward to it all week and show up at 6pm, however, some people show up for just the last half hour. There is no "right" time to arrive or leave. What’s up with the no talking and no shoes? You’ll see on the no talking thing. Invariably someone will forget and say something on the dance floor from time to time, and watch how all your attention moves from your body to your mind and you’ll quickly see the value in having a talking-free dance floor. You can talk anywhere aside from the dance floor and the alter/mediation room. No shoes means “No Street Shoes” because many people decide to dance barefoot. Street shoes track in dirt and other things, and it also hurts if someone steps on you with shoes. If you have dance shoes and would like to wear them, you’re more than welcome to do that. What clothes should I wear? Think like you’re going to the gym or a yoga class. Others get creative and sparkly. There is no right or wrong. It gets hot when you are dancing for a long time, so we suggest something comfortable and light. Cologne and Perfume? Please refrain from wearing cologne and perfume if possible. You can use essential oils, and please come showered and clean. When you have a bunch of bodies moving and sweating, the last thing you want is that masked by a bunch of competing artificial scents. Those with sensitivities and allergies will thank you. How can I participate and contribute my time/talent to Ecstatic Dance? We get asked this a lot! Which is awesome, because Ecstatic Dance is by its very nature the total sum of its own community. If you teach yoga, dance, contact improv, play instruments, sing, have marketing skills, cooking skills, juicing skills, are a good copy writer, artist, or designer and would like to volunteer as a form of donation, please contact Zack Geist, the event’s organizer, and let him know via Facebook, email, or in-person at Ecstatic Dance. I love Ecstatic Dance and I really want to talk to some of the people that are there, but there’s no talking on the dance floor. How in the heck do I meet people in the Ecstatic Dance community? You can talk anywhere other than the dance floor and alter/mediation/contemplation room. Volunteering for set-up and break-down of the dance offers some additional time to interact with community members. The temple often prepares a sit-down meal that some of the dancers attend and visit with one another after dance. Getting involved in the community garden in the back of the temple is also a good way to form connections!

🌿 A NEW CHAPTER FOR ECSTATIC DANCE SLC 🌿

After 10 beautiful years at the Krishna Temple, it’s time for Ecstatic Dance SLC to find a new home.

For a decade, that dance floor has held so much of our community’s life. We have danced, sweat, laughed, cried, prayed, connected, celebrated, released, and experienced the incredible fullness of being alive together. Hundreds of dances, thousands of moments, and countless memories have unfolded within those walls.

We are deeply grateful to the Krishna Temple for opening its doors to us for the past 10 years and for providing a space where Ecstatic Dance could grow, evolve, and thrive in Salt Lake City. ❤️

Due to upcoming kitchen renovations, the Temple is no longer able to host our dances, which means it’s time for us to find our next home.

✨ And we’re excited to see what’s next. ✨

We are currently narrowing down several possibilities for a new space, and we’re also opening the door to community support. If you know of a beautiful, spacious, welcoming venue that could be a good home for Ecstatic Dance SLC, please reach out by email and let us know!

We are also looking for volunteers to help us through this transition — from researching spaces, helping with the move, and supporting the dance in a new space. This is a moment for our community to come together, support one another, and help shape the next chapter of Ecstatic Dance in SLC. We have a telegram group for volunteers - please email us at [email protected] or message us on FB to join our volunteer telegram group.

A HUGE thank you to our incredible leadership team, our dedicated volunteers, all of the artists who have shared their gifts with us over these many years, and of course, all the dancers! You have helped make this community what it is, and we couldn’t have done it without you. 🙏

We are sad to say goodbye to this era. And at the same time, we feel the excitement and possibility of a new beginning.

Our final dance at the Krishna Temple is still being determined, and we expect to be moving sometime this fall.

Stay tuned for updates, and if you feel called to help us find our next home or support the transition, please reach out to to us by email - [email protected]

Comments will be turned off for this post, please DM or email us if you have anything to share or desire to be involved.

❤️

Here’s to the next chapter.
Here’s to new floors, new spaces, and new possibilities.
And here’s to continuing to dance together. 💃🏽🕺🏽✨

Boulder-based NYRUS will be taking us deep on August 26 with a lush, bass-heavy ecstatic set—dropping it LOW LOW to shake those tailfeathers. 🌀🔥

NYRUS exists in the space where opposites meet — electronic and organic, ancient and future, the waking mind and the dreaming one. Drawing from bass music, ambient scoring, and cinematic sound design, the project builds layered, instrumental soundscapes that move slowly and deliberately, favoring atmosphere and texture over hooks.

Glistening, ethereal melodies sit against head-nodding low end, each track a ritual for mind, body, and spirit.

This Wednesday, August 19, we welcome back JUPITER to hold down the sonic container for us.

JUPITER is a dynamic DJ/Producer with over a decade of experience captivating audiences through electrifying, bass-driven performances. Known for her deep, low-frequency sound, she has shared the stage with global bass producer SOOHAN and Drum & Bass duo Pola & Bryson. She has also been featured in SLUG Magazine and SLUG Soundwaves.

Music has been part of JUPITER’s story since before she was born. Her father, a Drum & Bass DJ, would place headphones on her mother’s belly while mixing so she could hear the rhythms in the womb. Raised around rolling basslines and breakbeats, her connection to bass music runs deep.

Now a mother herself, JUPITER continues the tradition—sharing those same frequencies with her own son, carrying forward a powerful musical legacy.

Whether setting the tone as an opener or commanding the spotlight as a headliner, JUPITER delivers gritty, immersive sonic journeys that leave a lasting impact on every crowd.

We are pleased to welcome her back to lead this dance. Join us!

YOGA w/ LINDSAY HESTER:

Lindsay Hester, also known as LoO HoO, has been practicing yoga since 2014. During her years as a teacher and counselor in the education system, her passion for movement, mindfulness, and emotional well-being led her to teach yoga and flow classes for children and teens, using movement as a powerful tool for emotional regulation. In 2019, Lindsay attended a transformational yoga retreat in Bali that deepened her personal practice and strengthened her commitment to living and sharing the yogic path. This year, she has expanded into teaching adults, welcoming participants to reconnect with their bodies, breath, and inner child. She is currently preparing to complete her yoga teacher certification in Guatemala, continuing her journey of lifelong learning and service.

DJ Unalome (Dr. Shannon Simonelli) is back!

After taking time away from DJing to complete her new book, "The Circulatio," Shannon returns to guide the dance floor on Wednesday, August 12.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Shannon has been creating musical journeys and transformational dance experiences. Her carefully crafted sets invite dancers into a deeply embodied experience, supporting movement on the physical, emotional, spiritual, and collective levels. Throughout each journey, she masterfully weaves subtle prompts and invitations into the music, inspiring the floor to move deeply, freely, and fully alive.

A lifelong dancer, Shannon has trained in movement therapies, depth psychology, trance-based healing, and creative arts therapy. She traces her love of dance back to childhood, grooving to "Soul Train" and "American Bandstand" at just three years old—a passion that continues to shape her work today.

Come as you are, dance courageously, and join us for an unforgettable evening.

🌐 Visit Shannon at ShannonSimonelli.com

SPECIAL BOOK SIGNING
Copies of "The Circulatio: A Spiraling Process to Get Unstuck and Cultivate Your Authentic Being in Life and Practice" will be available for purchase in the lobby, with an author signing following the closing circle.

AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT w/ DAVID DESCRIPTION:

Authentic Movement is a practice through which we can connect with and communicate our internal experience, while at the same time receiving the support of being seen by someone else. It teaches us to embody our feelings, circumventing the limitations of language-based thought. Each participant will take a turn as a “mover” and a “witness.”

Movers will be asked to respond to their feelings, waiting to be moved by them, individually and without the influence of music. Witnesses will develop their ability to attend to others and, simultaneously, pay attention to what they experience in themselves. The group will take some time to talk about whatever was expressed or felt, and then we’ll switch roles. It can feel very vulnerable to know that you are being seen, so the group practice and conversation will have guidelines ensuring as much emotional safety as possible.
