Here are the B minor triad shapes on strings 4–6.
This string set gives you a lower, thicker version of the chord, which can work really well for riffs, rhythm parts, or adding movement without playing a full barre chord.

B minor is still just:
B - D - F #
Same 3 notes, different locations.

That’s the real benefit of learning triads — you start seeing the chord across the neck instead of being stuck with one shape.
Try playing one of these shapes, then move it into a simple chord progression and see how it sounds.

Use the Chord Trainer to generate chord progressions, choose the key and tempo, and play along using your B minor triads! 👇

Here’s Pattern 5 of the F # minor pentatonic scale 🎸
This shape sits in a great spot on the neck and gives you a different way to see the same five notes.
Instead of just memorizing the pattern, work on making it feel comfortable. Try double picking each note, hammering on the notes, play it as fast as you can, etc.
The better you know each pattern, the easier it gets to move around the neck without feeling lost.

Here are the B minor triad shapes on strings 3–5.

B minor is built from:
B - D - F #

If you already know the A minor triads, this is a great next step because the shapes are the same — they’re just moved to a different spot on the neck.
That’s one of the best parts about triads.

Once you understand the shape, you can start moving it around instead of relearning everything from scratch.
Try each shape slowly, then use one of them inside a chord progression or riff idea.

How to Properly play an open A chord on the guitar 🎸

There is a right way—and some common wrong ways.
Playing it the right way now prevents problems later, like muted strings or finger pain from a cramped hand position.

Here are the B minor triad shapes on strings 2–4 of the guitar. 🎸

Same chord. Same 3 notes:
B - D - F #
But now you’re finding them on a different string set.

That’s where triads start getting really useful. Instead of being stuck with one big chord shape, you can play smaller versions of the chord in different areas of the neck.
Try each shape slowly, then move between all three.

This is a simple way to make common major chord progressions on the guitar sound a little less basic. 🎶

Instead of starting with a regular F major chord, these use Fsus2.

That one small change gives the progression a more open sound without making it harder to understand. 🎸
Same progression idea, just with a different feel

Here’s Pattern 4 of the F # minor pentatonic scale 🎸

This shape is a good reminder that the pentatonic scale isn’t just one box — it shows up all over the neck.

Try playing the pattern clean, then add hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends, or a few slides to work on some techniques.

Sometimes the smallest chord change makes the whole progression feel different.

A minor 7 chord still gives you the minor sound, but that extra note can make the progression feel less stiff and more musical.

Try this:
Play the first progression with plain chords:
Dm - B♭ - Am

Then try it with the chart version:
Dm7 - B♭ - Am7

Same progression idea, but a slightly different feel

Here are the B minor triad shapes on strings 1–3 of the guitar.
B minor is built from 3 notes:
B - D - F #

The cool part is you don’t have to play those notes in just one spot. You can find the same chord in different places across the neck.

That gives you more options for rhythm parts, leads, and connecting ideas without always relying on the same big chord shape!
Try one shape at a time, then move between all three slowly.
