The couple has been identified as Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus (also known as Vanya Beerkus).

After illegally climbing to the top of the Empire State Building and unfurling a banner, Ivan got down on one knee on a lower platform of the spire and proposed to Angela. She accepted, and the two kissed before they were taken into police custody.

The pair are well known for extreme urban climbing and were featured in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, which follows their relationship and high-risk climbs around the world.
