We saw the owl's on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and the little Robin was located near The Hermitage near Pitlochry.

Continuing our animals of Scotland theme...
One animal your sure to see all over the UK are sheep. They are everywhere. Although they are very common, one thing you may not know is how they fit into the history of Scotland.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the Highland Clearances began. Among other reasons, landowners began evicting their tenants to make way for sheep farming. This resulted in waves of mass emigration that devastated the Gaelic culture in Scotland and is what brought many a Scots to America and Australia.

Around most bends in the road and on many hillsides you'll find them. Most people pass without noticing them for the beautiful creatures they are or for what they might provide for humans. Here in Scotland you'll find many breeds, but one above all is special and is named for the places they roam.

Scotland has a wide variety of wildlife. In the short time we visited, we had a few memorable encounters. One in particular was catching a glimpse of white-tailed eagles (more commonly known as sea eagles), the largest bird of prey in Britain. You can find them along the west coast of Scotland. We found this one gliding along the cliffs on the Isle of Skye.

Edinburgh at sunset is beautiful, however if you truly want the best view of the city skyline, make sure you visit Calton Hill. Situated at the east end of Princes Street, Calton Hill is a UNESCO World Heritage site and boasts great views of Edinburgh Castle and the many spires lining Princes Street. Here you can also visit the old Observatory House, the Dugald Stewart Monument, and the famed National Monument of Scotland.

Edinburgh is full of history and beautiful architecture. One place to take both in is the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Holyrood Palace, as its more commonly known, is located at the end of the Royal Mile and is the residence of the British Monarch in Scotland. Although most of the property cannot be photographed, there are beautiful fountains and ruins on the grounds that are sure to tickle your fancy!

While in Scotland, one of our favorite places to visit is Edinburgh Castle. It dominates the city skyline from atop an ancient extinct volcano and is at the best place to start a tour of the Royal Mile.
In August the castle hosts the world famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo and is a great vantage point to take in the many sights of the city.

We begin the month of August on the Royal Mile. The street that runs from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace in the capitol city. This street is full of shops, pubs, restaurants, artists, performers and an overall great atmosphere.
When visiting make sure you stroll down many of the quaint side streets. You never know what treasures you'll find.
