Hello, Family...can we talk about these Bat Burger MENUS for a second? 👀🦇🍔
This might be one of my favorite details from the whole party.

I designed custom comic book-style graphics for every burger, side, and ingredient so the menu actually feels like something you’d see hanging inside a real superhero burger restaurant.

And honestly? THIS is why custom parties feel different.
The decorations aren’t just decorations anymore. They help tell the story.

Instead of choosing between “Burger #1” or “Burger #2,” the kids get to order themed burgers named after heroes and villains, "The Bat Signal" or "The Two Face" while surrounded by comic book artwork created just for the party.

Those little details pull people into the experience...and that’s where the real memories are made.

What started as a logo on my computer is now becoming plates, cups, and fry boxes for my daughter's Batman-themed birthday party.

And that's what I love about custom parties.

Okay, people...
A successful party day usually starts before the actual party begins.

By the time party day arrives:
✔️ decorations should mostly be ready
✔️ supplies should be organized
✔️ food prep should already be started
✔️ gifts should be wrapped
✔️ setup should feel manageable

Because honestly? The goal of prep is NOT perfection.

The goal is getting YOU out of the kitchen and into the memories.

As moms, we sacrifice so much time creating meaningful experiences for our kids:
🎨 DIY projects
🛍️ shopping
🖨️ printables
🍪 baking
🎈 decorating
🧁 planning

And honestly? That effort matters.

But don’t be too hard on yourself if everything doesn’t go exactly according to plan.

Focus on the guest of honor.
Focus on connection.
Focus on creating a day that feels special.

Because THAT is what people remember most.

Prep Your Schedule of Events

One of the BEST things I ever added to birthday parties?

A schedule of events. It was my daughter's Idea to create a slideshow, and it became a tradition.

And honestly? It completely changed the flow of our parties.

I display ours on the TV as part of a slideshow, but signs or chalkboards work too.

The schedule helps because:
✔️ guests know what’s happening next
✔️ activities stay on track
✔️ you don’t accidentally skip important moments
✔️ late arrivals can catch up quickly
✔️ people stay engaged longer

And honestly? It helps ME too.

While guests are crafting or playing a game, I can:
🧁 prep dessert
🎂 light candles
🍔 finish food
🎁 set up the next activity

One of my favorite tricks is adding an “after party” slide at the end. 😂 Kids get to stay to play a video game or watch a movie and the adults inevitably want to help you clean up...win-win!

Let me tell you...
Categories save my sanity during party prep. 😂

Because when everything lives in one giant mental pile, party planning starts feeling VERY overwhelming.

So I prep by category:
🎈 Decorations
🎁 Gifts & Favors
🍔 Food & Cake
🎲 Games & Activities
🖥️ Tech & Admin
🍽️ Tablescape

Instead of thinking:
“I still have EVERYTHING left to do.”

I can say:
✔️ Decorations are done
✔️ Games are ready
✔️ Food prep starts Friday

And honestly? That mental clarity matters SO much.

Overwhelm often comes from disorganization, not necessarily from the amount of work itself. I even do a few things to keep the items grouped together. I save amazon boxes to sort supplies. Easy to grab later. And, I use mesh zipper pouches to keep items together, like game components, craft supplies, or recipes. Folders are great too.

Prep by Timeline and Everything Falls Into Place

One of the BIGGEST things that changed party planning for me?

EXTENDING THE RUNWAY!

There was a season when I worked full-time AND went to school full-time while raising kids. Most birthday parties were planned in about 72 hours because that’s realistically all I had. 😂But they were great for the time I was able to give!!

But eventually I realized:
I didn’t need more hours in the week.
I needed MORE WEEKS before the party.

Once I started prepping weeks and even MONTHS ahead, I could create much more meaningful parties while still only working on them a few hours at a time.

Here’s what I learned:
🎨 DIY takes the MOST time
🛒 Purchased takes the LEAST time
🤝 Third-party/custom work falls somewhere in the middle

The more detailed your vision is, the longer your runway should be.

I’ve learned that the things that energize ME can completely drain someone else. I love details, structure, and planning. My husband? He loves the big ideas and conversations with people.

My son is the absolute best at obscure party themes. Last year, he wanted a party themed around a paranormal podcast called The Why Files (no, WF does not mean what you thought, lol).
