Blue Rose Bellydance is led by Firuza, who has over 14 years of experience and performs with the Roses of the Realm at the Carolina Renaissance Festival and with the Raq-A-Bellas performance troupe.
--Why Blue Rose Bellydance Welcomes All Bodies - Diversity and Inclusion Policy--
Dance is a celebration of personal expression, freedom, and connection with others. Blue Rose Bellydance is proud to
welcome students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We do not discriminate on the basis of race or color, gender or gender expression, sexual orientation, body type, health conditions, or disabilities. And while belly dance is a majority-women profession, dancers of all gender expressions and identities are always welcome in our studio classrooms. In addition, while belly dance in its countries of origin can be an all-women’s celebration of movement and freedom, the form is danced in communities and professionally by people of all genders, identities, and ages. We believe in cultivating a global community of dancers who value more than just tolerance, but who also foster respect and mutual understanding. We also believe that our students have a right to feel accepted for who they are while they study this dance form, which has served as a refuge for many marginalized people throughout its history. As an institution, we continue to welcome any student interested in learning, growing, and respecting their peers and instructors. We find power in our diversity, and we strive to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all of our dancers.
--Behavior and Dance Etiquette--
The studio is a place for learning and fun. Students are asked not to comment or critique other students or their dance techniques. Please direct questions to the instructor, for yourself or for others. Conversation and socialization is encouraged before and after class. Talking during class is acceptable as long as it does not distract other students from learning. If a student is late to class, please stretch and do a few warm ups before joining class activities, without disrupting the other students.
--Attendance and Makeup Classes--
If Blue Rose Bellydance or Heart of Salisbury cancel a class, a makeup class will be provided to students at no additional charge. Each makeup class will be scheduled based on the studio’s availability and whether the majority of students can attend the new scheduled time. If a student is unable to attend a class, they can arrive fifteen minutes early to the next scheduled class, and the instructor will provide a brief recap of the missed class. If more than one class is missed, the student can contact Blue Rose Bellydance or Heart of Salisbury to arrange a private class to catch up, at a set cost. Multiple students can attend a private class.
