Urban Arts Collaborative "Nature is Art - Art is Healing." The mission of Urban Arts Collaborative is to create safe space for artistic expression as a catalyst

Brief History

UAC’s initial impetus for creating a collaborative organization came from the realization that creative expression was being criminalized through the designation of public art, particularly urban (graffiti) art, as vandalism and the arrest of urban artists, particularly youth of color. This pioneering of UAC leaders work created spaces for the public and private sectors in the Sali

nas Valley to engage for the first time in a redefinition of public art that eventually led to a greater understanding of this art form and even public support for its creation. The impact of this advocacy work led UAC to broaden the scope of its work into other issues of great importance to the community, such as food justice, land use and earth stewardship, health equity, LGBTQ rights, and youth leadership using art as the vehicle for transformation.

Join us every Wednesday—on 3/25, 4/1, and 4/8—for our fun and creative UAC art-making workshops! We’re excited to feature your Art in a special community-themed exhibition on Saturday, April 25th, from 11am to 4pm. The exhibition features work by talented local artists, residents, and Hartnell College students. These workshops are totally free, and materials are on us, available from 4pm to 6pm. while supplies last. Everyone of all ages is warmly welcome, especially visual artists, and high school students can even earn community hours.
