Top o' tha marnin' to ya' >

That's just the phrase many Irish cringe at, because most will tell, "ya, that's not something we actually say..." Still, the sentiment is nice, yes? Meet Suzanne Pierce at Roanoke's office of Spilman Thomas & Battle law firm. Our executive profile in your September edition (just released) describes her approach as an attorney (with a little lore of her trek from Ireland to Virginia thrown in). Lucky you gets to read it here:

A September tease >

Our FRONT'n About section each month shows happenings of all sorts throughout our region. If it happened at the end of a month (say, July) well, we might just show it not in August, but September. Some of you can guess where this pic happened. Or around 10,000 of you can...

The Charter/Spectrum - Cox Acquisition Call >

Some takeaway notes from today's press conference with Charter's CEO Chris Winfrey regarding the reported $35B Cox acquisition deal:

- new entity creates 35 million customers
- customers will see no changes (but beginning Sept, can keep or change packages after comparing)
- Spectrum prices are mostly lower
- Spectrum will not compete with Comcast/Xfinity because "we don't overlap"
- some layoffs (due to redundant positions) but not front line, field offices, etc.
- filling "a thousand" sales positions; and in "many cases, increasing our count"
- continued commitment to invest in local community
- in business space, will lean on [what] Cox [has established] but Cox will also benefit from Charter's national presence
- bringing offshore call center work back to the U.S.
- acquired markets will see "local, unbiased" Spectrum News Network
