This Halloween, the NH Philharmonic is doing things a little differently.

We begin with the power and excitement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.

Then intermission happens…

…and the orchestra comes back IN COSTUME.

🌙 Mussorgsky — Night on Bald Mountain

Join the NH Philharmonic Orchestra for the final concerts of the 2025–2026 season, Folk Voices and Fantasies, Music Rooted in Culture and Imagination on May 30 & 31 at Seifert Performing Arts Center, Salem High School, Salem NH at 2pm.

Carlos Chavez - Sinfonia India

Max Bruch - Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra - William Yeh, soloist

Igor Stravinsky - Suite from Petrushka

This concert celebrates folk traditions and cultural storytelling. Chavez's "Sinfonia India" (1935-1936) incorporates indigenous Mexican melodies and percussion, honoring native heritage with rhythmic vitality.

Bruch's "Scottish Fantasy" (1880) evokes the spirit of Scotland through folk tunes and Romantic lyricism, with the solo violin portraying a poetic narrator.

Stravinsky's "Suite from Petrushka" (1947) condenses his ballet about a tragic puppet into a vivid concert piece, blending Russian folk color, bold rhythms, and shifting moods. Together, these works offer a journey through national identity, folklore, and fantasy, revealing how composers reimagine tradition through bold orchestration and imaginative storytelling.
