The first time Carl worked as Santa was in 1995 with a fake beard and a loaned Santa suit. This was at a private school at the request of a family of one of the students. Then in 2004 Carl bought his own Santa outfit. After Carl’s beard turned white he started getting requests to work as Santa. First in a small Midwest town where he was the town Santa for the Christmas parade. Santa also worked at the bank for kids’ day before Christmas, asking kids what their wish was for Christmas. In 2006 Santa Carl started working at the Santa site in Lancaster Mall along with Santa Mark Hunter. Santa Carl also worked several years at Picture People in Salem Center mall. In work at Lancaster Mall the youngest child brought in for pictures was just 3 days old. The oldest person brought in for pictures was a lady who was 102. Her daughter brought her in to get a picture with Santa. We take pictures for all ages and families too. In 2010 a young man proposed to his girl friend while setting on Santa's knees while taking pictures for family. In the picture section you can see triplets that were very young and then again in 2011with their little brother. Many families come back each year to get their pictures with Santa Carl. Santa Carl also does some private parties, as there is time with his schedule.

Christmas is coming soon and Santa is spending this Christmas Season in Kalona Iowa. He will be riding the town fire truck through the city and then be at the community center to meet the children on December 4th. Plan to come and visit and get your pictures then.

I want to thank all of you for the many years I have enjoyed being your Santa. This year Santa will be in Kalona Iowa. We are moving to Iowa to be close to family. A special thanks to Mazda Mokalla owner of Shooting Star and the ladies that were there taking your pictures. I hope you all continue to visit Santa this year and enjoy a great Christmas season. We just returned from a wonderful time with my family in Iowa. It was the first time in over 3 years that all of my brothers and sisters all were together. We planned to be there for a week but was shorted a day due to our flights. It all started on a Monday when went to Camas and spent the night with our son Denny and wife so we could be at the airport for our flight at 6am Tuesday. We woke up at 2:30 am and were at the airport at American airlines gate before 6am only to find our flight was going to leave at 11:30am.
The plane wasn’t in so we missed our connecting flight to Cedar Rapids. We had to stay overnight in Phoenix arriving a day late. American airlines competed only one room for the four of us. Denny said no way and he paid for another room. On Wednesday we arrived in Iowa a day late. Every day was filled with family and good times together. Wednesday evening we had our first Tenderloin sandwiches; Thursday 21 of us ate at The, Tuscan Moon, Brother Warren’s restaurant, ‘wow what food’. Friday found us a brother Bob’s home with ribs etc and home made ice cream. Saturday started with brunch at sister Marcia’s farm home. Lots of great food prepared by some of the Grand daughters using my mother’s recipes Great food. Later in the day was an evening meal by the same granddaughters finishing with homemade pies and homemade ice cream. Sunday another brunch at Marcia’s that lasted most of the day. 41 family members attended which includes my oldest sister as the oldest to my 7 month old Great grandson as the youngest. All of my children along with most of their cousins attended. Thanks to Marcia and husband Ellis for hosting the gathering. Monday evening Marge, I, and Cheryl went to sister Linda’s for tenderloins and an evening of visiting. Tuesday back to the airport for more American airline delays the plane for our Phoenix leg wasn’t at the airport for departure time. We went instead through Dallas getting to Portland after midnight instead of 9pm. Other than travel on American Airlines our time in Iowa was great.

Salem Santa is sad to let you know that there will not be a Santa site at Willamette Town Center this year. Because of the Covet 19 there seems no way to keep everybody safe so everything is canceled. I am very sorry that I will not be able to see all of you there. I wish all a good holiday season. Remember the real reason for the season.

Here we are in August and we are wondering what Christmas season will be like. Will we be back to normal or is this the new normal. I was visiting with the owner of Shooting Star, the company that has the Santa site Here we are in August and no sign as when we will be close to normal or if this is the in the mall. We are wondering what should we do this year. I decided to put this question out and ask for ideas. If we were at the mall would people feel comfortable bringing their children in for pictures? I would like some feedback from anyone with ideas we might use for this Christmas. Thank you for your help.

Just a note from the North Pole, We are all healthy and doing OK. I wonder what our Christmas Season will bring this year. Will we be able to be back in the mall for pictures and chance to meet all friends? As the year and all progresses we will try to keep you informed about our appearance in November and through Christmas. Keep praying that this will pass soon. I want to thank all who are concerned about my health. I have had 6 months of problems but now I am at the end of the troubles and gaining my health and strength back. According to my doctor I should be back this coming Christmas season. I look forward to seeing you all then. Have a great 2020.

Due to unexpected health issues Salem Santa will not be at Willamette Town Center this Christmas season. I will miss all of my friends there.
