Music Highlight Monday!
Released in 1981, Psychedelic Jungle, the second studio album by The Cramps, peaked at No. 44 on the New Zealand Albums Chart, though it bypassed the major US and UK charts. The album radiates a swampy and reverb-drenched vibe, blending 1950s rockabilly with gritty 1960s garage punk and B-movie horror aesthetics. A few fun facts: 1) The album includes their iconic cover of Ronnie Cook & The Gaylads' "Goo Goo Muck," which gained massive pop-culture resurrection decades later in Netflix’s Wednesday; 2) Half of the tracklist consists of obscure 1950s and 60s rockabilly/garage covers; and 3) The back cover features a striking photo taken by renowned rock photographer Anton Corbijn.
