Cinema Salem is an independent three-screen movie theater in Salem, Mass. Prior to that, a succession of other cinemas occupied the same space. Many North Shore folks recall seeing movies here over the years -- from blockbusters to arthouse fare to cheapo dollar-a-ticket shows. In March 2020 Cinema Salem closed its doors amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Fourteen months later, the cinema is reopening on Friday, June 4 under new leadership with a new vision. We’re eager to get back to showing the kind of movies you've always enjoyed here. We'll also be presenting exciting discoveries from cinema's rich history and more recent gems off the beaten path. In addition, we look forward to an expanded menu of live performances and events

War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life. Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant. There is no third time. Everything ends here.

On October 17th, we’re heading back to Hull House for NIGHT OF THE DEMONS - THE UNRATED VERSION at Cinema Salem, and if there’s one guest who can make a demon-infested Halloween party feel even more hostile, it’s Stooge. Loud mouth, punk-rock attitude, zero impulse control, and eventually the kind of demonic upgrade that makes anger management feel a little beside the point. Come spend the night with Angela, Stooge, Suzanne and the rest of the doomed guest list as Kevin Tenney’s 1988 Halloween classic tears across the big screen in all its sleazy, practical-effects-soaked glory. Jason and Freddy are still too scared to come… but Stooge is ready to raise some hell.
