Who knows what this is and why it's so interesting?

We found a couple of them recently on a hike very close to the Jocassee Gorges.

Twin Falls is one of the easiest waterfalls to access in the Jocassee Gorges! It's a short hike, under a mile roundtrip if you use the lower trail, and you get to see a double waterfall.

Please remember to take out your own trash, never litter, and enjoy the beauty of the trail.

Have you been here?

The rain finally came in the Jocassee Gorges- and it was beautiful!

This is at Table Rock State, the gateway to the Jocassee Gorges in Pickens, SC. 💧💧

Part of our mission is to educate the next generations about the uniqueness of the Jocassee Gorges in efforts to preserve and protect it for years to come. We have an educational conservation project fund that includes things like improvements at Devils Fork State Park and Jocassee Wild Child, where kids have a day on the lake to learn about the gorges, the history of the area, and the reasons why it needs to be protected - all while having the best day ever!

These kids will be the next educators and we want them to have the same love of the Jocassee Gorges that we do! Part of your membership fee goes to this educational scholarship program. 👏👏

We really need rain on our temperate rainforest here in the Jocassee Gorges- and hopefully will get some soon.

But this was the scene today and wow, was it gloriously beautiful!

Do you get the Blue Wall Weekly, the weekly email newsletter from Jocassee Lake Tours and Shuttle Service? It's a great newsletter with lots of helpful information not only on the lake itself but also for the nature events it includes that are happening during the week.

In this week's email newsletter, Kay Wade writes this with the photo included:

"Six decades have passed since Duke Power announced plans to build nuclear and hydroelectric facilities to generate electricity for Oconee and Pickens Counties. Two lakes were to be created by containing Keowee River behind dams. Surveyors traversed Jocassee Gorges, marking a clean line through the hills. Timber companies followed, and bulldozers. Soon enough a belt of cleared land 100’ wide outlined the perimeter of a future Lake Jocassee. Six decades later, tree stumps remain around the lake’s edge, hidden just below the full pool surface. When state-wide drought forces water levels to drop, these stumps emerge like old friends, a silent reminder of what this place once was."

Summer season is nearly here at Lake Jocassee, which means long lines to get into the park.

Pro tips:

1- go during the week since it's less busy. It's worth that PTO!

2- have a plan B if you don't get into the park. Lake Keowee isn't far and there are county parks to visit on the lake for a day on/in the water. Keowee-Toxaway State Park is also closeby. It was a very small parking area near the water where you can access the lake.
