The City of Salem’s Snow Emergency parking ban will be lifted this evening, Saturday, February 7 at 7:00pm. Residents may begin moving their vehicles from snow emergency lots and relocating to street parking at that time; however, enforcement will not begin until 9:00am tomorrow morning, Sunday, February 8.
DPS continues to work to clear up the large volume of snow. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
-Should you need to be out on the roadways, please drive with caution and expect to encounter icy conditions.
-Be sure to clear sidewalks adjacent to your property as soon as possible once the snow ban has been lifted. Clearing adjacent sidewalks and crosswalk cutouts are the responsibility of property owners. We also ask for your assistance in shoveling out fire hydrants in front of and nearby your property – this will help the Salem Fire Department to locate them much more quickly in the case of an emergency.
-We also ask that when finding a spot to park on the street, that you are mindful to park close enough to the curb in order to allow for a wide enough throughway for emergency vehicles to pass.
-Continue to keep exhaust and vent pipes for heating systems and hot water heaters clear of snow to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
-Test CO and smoke detectors within your home to ensure they are working.
-Continue to check in on neighbors, especially those who may be older, disabled and/or homebound.
If you must travel, slow down, leave extra space, and do not crowd plows.
