My heart hurts.
My heart hurts because I turned a blind eye.
My heart hurts because I hated him for kneeling.
My heart hurts because I was a supportive wife but an uninformed citizen.
My heart hurts because I chastised protests before this one.
My heart hurts because I argued that ALL lives matter.
My heart hurts because I chose to live in ignorance.
My heart hurts because of my own internalized oppression.
My heart hurts because I have insulted my own race.
My heart hurts because I never considered "them" MY people.
My heart hurts because I was proud that I didn't "sound" black, or rather, that I "sounded" white.
My heart hurts because I considered it a compliment when people said my skin tone was beautiful because I wasn't "too dark."
My heart hurts because I was proud of my white privilege.
My heart hurts because I wasn't with you... until now.
Now...
My heart hurts because my eyes see.
My heart hurts because my people are dying.
My heart hurts because my people MUST be heard.
My heart hurts because I will lose people I thought were friends.
My heart hurts...
It hurts so bad...
My heart hurts and now I will give my pain a VOICE and turn it into CHANGE.
(This song was requested by my beautiful cousin Nikki Moorelove and she dedicates it to her people Teka and Sonia.)
