REVIEW: Hello, Le and Pat:
It was a pleasure, Le, to see your impressive pointillist ink-on-paper works displayed in the comfortable lobby waiting room of Building C on Wednesday. The portraits, Xanama (2018) and Kumtkai (1974), together with your self portrait tour-de-force of 2019 incorporating dry pigment (like colored chalk) in the accessory image, were strong and drew attention readily. I wish that the exhibit set-up would have allowed room to display of your meaty expository supplement on the Saan peoples of Southern Africa and Child with Stick (2017) in closer proximity to the folio-sized portraits so that the theme of your display would be more apparent, but I am sure that most passers-by and those seeking a quiet nook in the lounge who have enough time to pause and reflect make the connection all right.
"Self Portrait with Questions," with its field and outlines filled with continuous penned lines of philosophical questions and musings on such things as the purpose of art, required a mighty steady hand and a lot of patience. I loved poring over it and those Renaissance figures clamoring over the pigmented piece. With your subject matter, imaginative creative skill, and intellectual heft, you made the core of that exhibit something rewarding to see. I enjoyed it very much, and my hat is off to the multi-gifted artist.
Enjoy these remaining days of an unusually warm (and perhaps all too dry) Indian summer. If nothing else, the extended sunshine lifts one's daily routines considerably, don't you think?
High fives and fond best wishes to you, dear duo, as always,
Elisabeth
