Today March 21st at 1pm EST consider joining a movement of peace. Take 5 minutes to meditate, sing, chant, write, envision and share Peace, Love, Unity and Respect.
Let it be 5 minutes that shifts the collective concentration. 5 minutes where we can come together in our own heads and send love out to the whole of the universe. Maybe it’s something we start to do every week, or every day. Maybe it’s a state of being we can learn to walk in. Maybe it does nothing at all. But…
It can’t hurt.
And that’s a start.

The grandmothers held all the stories of how to be. How to connect with this planet and how to treat one another. How to give and receive with gratitude. How to eat, cook, grow, heal, birth, create, rejoice and mourn. I think about these libraries often… About their violent deaths before recorded time then ghengis khan and burning stakes and the trail of tears and slave ships and cotton fields and concentration camps and detention centers and the idea that some people don’t matter.

Oh if they had not been killed , would these women,have whispered all the secrets of the universe into each new baby’s ears. Would they have taught men how to deescalate, how to calm their heated tantrums and turn ownership into a festival of giving . Would they have taught us to work towards the good of all, not just some. Would they have shown us how to find a measure of fairness, how to get along, how to disagree in measured meaningful conversation. Would they teach us how to know each other. How to understand each others emptyness and meet each and every need.

I havent been painting my nails, because , I don’t know, the world’s on fire. And it all seems even more ridiculous than ever to be like “oh my body made these little keratine deposits in my finger bed matrix that must hence forth be decorated” .

But on Tuesday I painted Mardi Gras nails. Because Mardi Gras! And , I feel like it’s a nice gesture, if drawing fortunes for people to not have to stare at my dirty troll hands.
I wanted to paint them purple , green, and gold. But I only had purple and teal nail polish, close enough. And because I didn’t have anything close to gold nail polish…. I decided to Gold Leaf my fingernails.
If you have ever Gold leafed anything in your life, you know I also gold leafed my living room and floor and half of everything I own. ( it gets everywhere , especially if you have a ceiling fan)
So anyway, now I feel like Midas. And worthy of a Paul Simon song, it’s not diamonds on the soles of my shoes. But it’s close.
