Our OSE community doesn't just create art—they actively shape, lead, and curate the cultural landscape of Tampa Bay! From managing world-class institutions to championing fine crafts, our Artist Enclave members are the visionary driving forces behind our local museums and galleries.

As the Gallery Director at Florida CraftArt, GillianHarper (.harper.art ) plays a crucial role in curating fine craft talent across the state. But her leadership is anchored in her own deep, hands-on artistic practice.

Gillian Harper is a sculptor and interdisciplinary artist. Her practice investigates the intersections of ecology, memory, and material transformation, utilizing a diverse array of media including cast iron, bronze, steel, wood, found objects, and organic matter. Through both traditional and experimental techniques, Gillian creates tactile works that explore the complexities of natural systems and human impact on the environment. Balancing her work as an arts administrator with her continuous evolution as a maker, she embodies the true spirit of our enclave: driving the local arts community forward both from behind the scenes and inside the studio.

Could you consider bread as an art form—functioning both as a culinary craft and as an intentional medium for visual and conceptual expression? In OSE Artist Enclave, creativity isn't confined to a canvas or a pedestal—sometimes, it’s baked fresh daily. Today we want to highligt the culinary artistry of Gilda Marchant.

Long before shaping golden, hand-scored loaves, Gilda was part of the OSE Artist Enclave family from the very beginning, originally working in delicate shell craft. That same sharp eye for texture, organic form, and detail has naturally carried over into her baking, where flour, water, and time become her medium.

Interesting Fact: A true multidisciplinary creator, Gilda even designed her own custom business logo! Follow along Bayboro Bakery and on Instagram

If you’ve ever admired the official OSE Artist Enclave logo, you’re looking at Joni Schinske’s original vision! Back in June 2019, Joni won the enclave’s legendary community logo contest held under the palms at The Chattaway—giving the OSE neighborhood art movement the visual identity it still proudly wears today.

Joni is also the talented mind and artist behind our official Studio Tour maps, visually guiding art lovers through our neighborhood year after year!

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭
Finding fossils on her family farm in Minnesota sparked Joni Schinske’s journey into art through archaeology, where she began sketching artifacts as part of her college studies. She went on to earn a master’s degree in Museum Studies, focusing on archaeology and graphic art. This led to a 20-year career as a museum director and exhibit designer.

Now retired, Joni is a regional and national award-winning artist who continues to create in a variety of mediums. Her love of outdoor art has led her to transform old fence boards into colorful works of art, many of which can be seen adorning homes throughout the Old Southeast neighborhood.

Her Provincetown-inspired prints featuring vintage fishing lures add a nostalgic touch to her ever-evolving repertoire, while her whimsical figure wood carvings offer yet another glimpse into her creative spirit. From archaeological artifacts to weathered fence boards, Joni’s artistic journey continues to explore the stories.

Building the Foundation: OSNA championed the Artist Eclave early on, securing space and community for artists to find their true homes.

In a space as dynamic as the OSE Artist Enclave, creative energy rarely exists in isolation—it collides, bounces, and multiplies. Few exemplify this shared alchemy quite like Elle Terry Leonard and Charlie Dean. As a creative duo, their collaboration isn’t just about shared projects; it’s a constant dialogue between distinct perspectives, blending individual crafts into a unified visual and conceptual force.

"I was working as Architectural Ceramics for many years before marrying and teaming up with Charlie. It’s truly wonderful and amazing to be able to be married and work together on large-scale commissions." ~ Elle Leonard Dean

“I wanted to somehow use my photographic images in a sculptural manner, and at the Morean Clay Center I had the chance to learn how it could be done: a Mural Class taught by Elle Leonard! She taught me how to translate my photographic images into bas-relief sculpture." ~ Charles Dean

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬
Ceramic artist Elle Terry Leonard (Dean) serves as the lead designer for Architectural Ceramics, specializing in site-specific clay commissions for corporate, public, and residential spaces. Drawing inspiration from the elegance of nature, historic architectural details, and modern abstract art, she collaborates closely with clients to create pieces that seamlessly integrate into their environment. Her signature works include hand-built and art-cut murals, which define her artistic style.

Detroit native Charles Dean earned his BFA in sculpture from Georgetown College, KY, and joined General Motors Design as a sculptor, helping develop future car models in clay. Later, as manager of the Saturn Design Studio, he pioneered "The Saturn Process," integrating engineering and styling through real-time CAD/CAM data. Later he focused on direct carving in stone and wood, exhibiting his work in Detroit galleries.

We are so happy to highlight Charles and Elle as integral members of the strong OSE Artist Enclave and Old Southeast Artist Enclave Studio Tour, where their talents continue to enrich and inspire the vibrant local arts community!

Old Southeast Artist Enclave is at St. Pete Skatepark! You may wonder why we are sharing it with you. This is just a simple reminder that art is all around us. Art and skate culture share a deep history where a simple skateboard deck can be transformed into a moving canvas, graffiti can show us the topics of the day, chlothes express who we are, posters invite us to different important events, and bike racks celebrate the urban culture (hello Campbell Park Neighborhood Association!) and functional public art.

Can you spot at least three art forms? We see mosaic, print, acrylics, movement, graphics, and even sculpture.

We can't wait to show you most of these beautiful art expressions during OSE Artist Enclave Studio Tour, October 24th, 10AM. Grab your maps at the iconic The Chattaway, where you can enjoy upcycled art with the famous pink painted cast-iron tubs used as outdoor flowerbeds!

"That was the best tour ever! Our docent was a professor of art history and was super informative. I had no idea this exhibit would be so interesting!"

Yes, those were the exact words of one of our art field trip attendees at Museum of Fine Arts, St. Pete today! We explored the Museum of Fine Arts' newest exhibit named New African Masquerades with our own tour guide!

Thank you to the family who came and learned more about four talented artists who use found objects and locally sources materials to make beautiful masks. Thank you, Museum of Fine Arts, for hosting us today!

We surely can say that our young artists are ready for Halloween!

Who knew drawing a pear can be so much fun! Thank you Deb Ferber | dLynn | Artist and Polish American Society for hosting this creative art night! We played with watercolors and some glitter of course!
