Artlofts presents a new exhibit by Women’s Caucus for Art

Black & White
Explore the theme of Black and White, which examines the metaphoric and physical nature of opposites attracting, repelling, and completing one another in a mind-body connection.
The meaning of Black and White’s layers are complex and vary with cultural viewpoints, including shades of gray. We invite the viewer to determine the dynamic between the meaning infused by the WCA artists, their own cultural filters, and the interface between works in the show.
Come on up and see this beautiful exhibit then visit with the ArtLofts artists in their working studios. Show continues to Jan 31

Schrödinger’s Diamonds
Schrödinger’s Diamonds is my newest piece and will be show in the ArtLofts at Florida CraftArt Gallery show opening January 6, 5:30-7.
It is a numbered edition of 50
Each ceramic diamond may or may not have a diamond inside. Until/unless you break it, you will not know. Do you want to own an art object which may contain a diamond? Would you rather break what you have bought only to discover you do not have a diamond?

Schrödinger’s Diamonds evolve from a number of inspirations.
1) Schrödinger’s Cat concept from quantum mechanics. (Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment that illustrates a paradox of quantum superposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.)
2) Tourist rock shops in the mountains where you buy a geode to break it so you can see if you chose wisely.
3) Opposite of “you break it, you bought it.”
4) Scratch-off lottery tickets.

Process and materials
Each diamond shaped capsule is made of fired clay primed, painted, and numbered. Each one contains a tiny black velvet bag inside a very small acrylic diamond shaped box. Each bag holds either a diamond or something that resembles a diamond.

Almost one third of them contain a diamond, some of the other items are more valuable that some of the diamonds.
Even I do not know which diamond carries anything of monetary value.
