We created this bobblehead for the Oakland A’s that is being given to the first 10,000 fans tonight. It celebrates Satchel Paige’s pitching performance at age 59(!!!) for the Kansas City A’s against the Boston Red Sox. He used the rocking chair because he didn’t want to sit in the below ground dugout saying, “I’se close enough to below the surface as is.”

If you cannot get to Oakland, you may buy one at this link: https://store.bobbleheadhall.com/products/paigeas

It has always been an honor to work with the Paige family.

Brian Kong created the 33 player cards, 16 from Kansas City and 17 for Hilldale.

You can support the set through Kickstarter at https://kck.st/3wt755l.

I found it interesting that Kansas City only had one catcher on their World Series roster, Frank Duncan. The same is true for the 1924 NNL season. Hilldale rostered three catchers - Louis Santop, Joe Lewis, and Biz Mackey - and used them all.

Congratulations to Eddie Dwight, Jr., son of Kansas City Monarchs CF (BRTR) and internationally acclaimed sculptor, who was selected to go to space on Blue Origin’s next mission. Dwight was the first black candidate selected for NASA’s space program in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. He was denied the opportunity to go into space by racism. Now 63 years later at age 90, he will get to go. Dwight will be tied with William Shatner as the oldest person to travel to space.
