Our favorite holiday is just around the corner. We've seen some of our neighbors are already getting spooky. Thank you! For those of you thinking you'd like to join in but you wish you got more trick-or-treaters, this post is for you.
There will be plenty. Last year Halloween was on a weeknight and we got around 70. This year being on a weekend, we're expecting over 100. Although they may know this house from years past, trick-or-treaters aren't exclusive to us. They'll happily visit your house too. You just have to get them to notice you.
On Halloween night, have a light on. A dark house means no candy. However, there's plenty of dusk-til-dawn porch lights and motion activated lights, so let them know your light is intentional. Best way to do this is to have some decorations. Up by the front door is fine but we suggest something out by the street as well. Doesn't have to be fancy. Only needs to send the message that you love spooky season too.
It helps if your setup is visible from a distance. Kids may stop at the intersection and decide which way to go next. One of the best ways to get their attention is some sort of motion. Those projection light shows work great, but honestly a set of blinking string lights will do the trick.
And lastly, advertise! We don't mean run some ads in the paper. But don't wait until the last minute to decorate. Put some stuff out at least a week prior. Give those potential trick-or-treaters a chance to notice your setup. Come Halloween night, they'll remember where they saw that jack-o-lantern last week. Pin your house on the Nextdoor Treat Map https://nextdoor.com/discover/?map_type=treat_map And do it again next year. You'll get known and become a regular stop.
Happy Halloween
