Here’s the third and final part of the making of this adorable, silver vial pendant. I decided that I wanted this to hold a tiny glass vial of wildflower seeds and be dedicated to saving our pollinators. I’ve been working on a series of items revolving around pollinators. I think the teeny tiny butterflies and birds and bees turned out so cute. However, sawing out all of these individual elements nearly made me crazy. Part two of making this cool, silver vial pendant. In this part, you’ll see me move toward completing the little mechanism that holds the lid to the base. Basically, there’s an L-shaped channel in a secondary cylinder that’s inset into the lid and then a pin that comes out of one side of the base that will slide into the channel and lock the lid when you turn it about 20°. This is part one of how I’m going to make a really cute metal vial that I’ll eventually turn into a pendant. This is part of a series of work I’m making that focuses on pollinators. I raise butterflies in my backyard and I’m fascinated by them. My intent is to perhaps put wildflower seeds in this vial eventually. Moving onto my next project, I love etching, and I don’t do it very much. Etching metal involves using chemicals and electricity to create a relief on the metal surface. It’s finally time to see what’s inside my tiny childhood memories filing box locket! I decided to fill this with teeny, tiny watercolors that represent about a dozen core memories from my childhood. I made a list of about 30 things that really stood out to me from the time I was very small until I was in high school. I chose the dozen that would make for fun illustrating, and then included those and divided by age range. This locket and its contents is my favorite thing that I’ve ever made, it’ll be on display at the Florida State fair next month. #locket #locketnecklace #charms #corememory #childhoodmemories #handmadejewelry
