What a great weekend! Had an absolute BLAST working at the Carnival Of Ink St. Charles show! I am sad it's over. Got to see so many friends, and met some new ones. I am probably going to offer some deals on some pieces I'd like to tattoo for next year's convention. So keep your eye out on my page. 😁

This weekend I'll be giving my first seminar, during the Carnival of Ink Tattoo Convention at the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, Missouri.

I've been tattooing for 30 years now, and during that time I've met some unbelievably talented tattoo artists. I've also watched some incredible artists struggle to keep clients, not because they weren't great tattooers, but because of the way they spoke to people, treated them, or made them feel while they were sitting in their chair.
This seminar isn't really about tattooing techniques. It's about the people who make it possible for us to have this amazing job in the first place. I want to share some of the things I've learned over the last 30 years that have helped me build relationships with my clients, along with some of the mistakes I've watched happen repeatedly in our industry. Most of them aren't huge mistakes. They're little things we may not even realize we're doing, but they can completely change the experience someone has with us.
I've always believed that people may not remember every word you said, but they'll remember how you made them feel. In our profession, I think that's just as important as the tattoo itself. A client can get a tattoo almost anywhere these days, but the experience you give them is one of the few things your competition can never copy.
I feel like I have a lot I can share that could help other artists build stronger relationships with their clients, create careers that last, and hopefully make our industry a little better as a whole. Without our clients, none of us would get to have one of the greatest jobs in the world, and I think that's something we should never lose sight of.

This month marks 30 years since I started tattooing, and I've tried writing this post several times now. Hell, I wanted to put this out since the middle of the month, and as you can see, that was a little bit ago. Honestly, I've hated every version. The problem I had was that every time I read it back to myself, it sounded like it was about me, and that's never what I wanted. So I kept trying.
The truth of the matter is, I wouldn't even be celebrating 30 years if it wasn't for all of you. There is no way I would have made it this far without all of you who have trusted me to tattoo them. That's just the truth.
Over the years, some of you came to me for one tattoo, while others have been coming back for years. Many of you have trusted me enough to send your friends and family to me, and one of the coolest parts of doing this for so long is that I've even had the chance to tattoo you, your sons and daughters, and in several cases your grandkids too! That's something I'll never take for granted.
You've trusted me to give you tattoos that celebrated some of the happiest moments in your lives, tattoos that remembered people you loved, and tattoos that carried a meaning that only you truly understood. Every single time you sat in my chair, you put a tremendous amount of trust in me, and I've always tried my best to be worthy of that trust.
After 30 years, I don't think I've ever appreciated all my clients more than I do right now. Every one of you who walked through my door, every one who came back, and every one of you who recommended me to someone else helped make this career possible. You gave me the opportunity to spend my life doing something I genuinely love, and I honestly don't know if I'll ever be able to thank you enough for that.
I hope that when you look at the tattoos we've done together, you're still happy you chose me. I know I'll always be grateful that you chose to trust me.
Whether I tattooed you 30 years ago or 30 days ago, thank you for being part of this journey. I truly couldn't have done it without you, and I couldn't appreciate my clients any more than I do today.

I will be at the Carnival of Ink convention again this year! I will be an amazing time as always, and I cannot wait! I have 3 pieces Inam working on each day, to enter into the show. I probably won’t have much time, if any, for walk up tattoos this year. I have something real cool happening each day, that will take up the rest of my evening. I will tell you all about it soon.
