It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved founder, Jacalyn “Jacie” Knight. 💜
Jacie was a visionary artist, a force of creativity and compassion, and above all, a devoted mother. In 1989, she founded Youth Performance Company with the belief that young people’s voices deserved to be heard and celebrated. For over three decades as Artistic Director, Jacie led YPC with fearless innovation—championing bold new works, socially conscious storytelling, and opportunities for youth to grow not only as artists, but as leaders and human beings.
Under her direction, YPC became a safe and inspiring space for thousands of young performers, writers, technicians, and dreamers. Many found their confidence, their calling, and their community within these walls because of Jacie’s vision and fierce spirit.
Her impact stretches far beyond the stage. Generations of students, colleagues, and audiences continue to carry forward her legacy of artistry, authenticity, and justice in their own lives and work.
While her professional achievements were extraordinary, Jacie’s greatest joy was being a mother—her son was the center of her world and her enduring source of pride.
Jacie leaves behind a vibrant community of family, friends, artists, and audiences whose lives were forever enriched by her brilliance, laughter, and love. She will be deeply missed, and her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched.
💜 Thank you, Jacie, for everything.
