BREAKING: Thanks for sticking with us as we transition into fall! As usual, we're flying by the seat of our pants, and we've got some more updates for you:
Due to mystical complications involving a backyard and the balsamic moon, September's event, FAMILY SECRETS, has been postponed. All submissions will be saved and considered for November, when FAMILY SECRETS will now take place.
Now, let us dive into October. It's a Saint Paul month, people, and we're trying something a little different. We're excited to bring you TWO shows, both taking place in beautiful downtown.
10/3--We collaborate with the Minnesota Museum of American Art for a 1970's "Show and Tell" at the opening of an exhibition by artist Mary Bergs, whose practice explores our relationship to objects.
Add your take to the cultural memory of the 1970s by telling the story of an object that represents the 1970s to you in 7 minutes or less. Then, bring that object with you to the show!
For those who lived through the 1970s, that object may grace mantels or lay buried in the backs of closets. For those who weren’t born yet or are too young to remember, the decade lives in vintage store gems and pop-cultural references.
Check out the link below for more info on how to submit.
10/24--Story City and the Minnesota Book Awards present LOST. Have you ever found yourself out of familiar territory? Forgotten where you came from or where you're going? Tell us about it! We're looking for storytellers (anyone from professionals to barstool soothsayers) to share the Story City stage with local authors.
To submit, send a few sentences about a true "lost" story from your life to [email protected] by 9/26. In the meantime, get ready to lose yourself (in a good way) to a night of stories, a celebration of Minnesota authors, and plenty of toasts to being found.
This will take place at the lovely Black Dog Cafe. Happy Hour beforehand, and music by jazz trio Bookhouse.
It's going to be great month. In the meantime, submit! And mark your calendar for these sweet shows.
Love,
Story City
