Congratulations to SPCO Principal Violin Kyu-Young Kim who has been named as the next Artistic and Executive Director of Schubert Club. Come July, Kyu will depart the SPCO and assume his new role at our fellow downtown Arts Partnership organization. His final performances as an SPCO musician will take place at our 2025.26 season finale next week, June 12–14.

Though we will miss him greatly, we are excited for both Kyu and our friends at Schubert Club who are gaining an incredible leader and colleague!

🎹 Jonathan Biss is back!

Rehearsals are underway for nearly sold-out performances this weekend. He'll lead the orchestra from the piano in a free-flowing program of music written and inspired by Robert and Clara Schumann.

Our final two programs of the 2025.26 season see the return of two audience faves — pianist Jonathan Biss and conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy. Behind the scenes with Artistic Partner Abel Selaocoe!

This week, Abel is back in Saint Paul for his final performances of our 2025.26 season. From a Debussy cello sonata to improvisatory singing with the orchestra, he moves effortlessly between musical styles, seamlessly blending genres with an incredible energy that can be felt no matter where you sit in the Ordway Concert Hall.

This week, Artistic Partner Abel Selaocoe returns to the Twin Cities!

In "The Centre is Everywhere," he’ll lead the SPCO in an ethereal and minimalist program, exploring music as texture, pattern and movement through composers like Julius Eastman and Edmund Finnis. From contemporary soundscapes to emotional improvisation, the music ebbs and flows between the driving intensity of strings and quiet, meditative moments. Come absorb the sound with us.

Next week, we present a program of hope, resilience, resistance and unity.

Violins of Hope, presented by the Minnesota JCC, is a powerful collection of restored string instruments played by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust. Through May and June, these extraordinary violins will be featured in local performances, exhibitions and educational programs around Minnesota.

Our concerts May 15–17 are part of this initiative. With a program of music inspired by Jewish traditions, you’ll both hear the legacy of these incredible instruments and have a chance to see them in the lobby through intermission.

May at the SPCO: music rooted in tradition and memory through unforgettable programs and special collaborations.

Presented by the Minnesota JCC, Violins of Hope shares instruments from the Holocaust in a program of resilience, loss and hope. These string instruments will be on display in the Ordway lobby and will be demonstrated on stage by SPCO musicians. Later in the month, Artistic Partner and cellist Abel Selaocoe returns for a beautifully ethereal exploration of music as texture, pattern and movement.
