John Pastorius
Tonight, I sat in the hospital corridor, between shifts, and noticed the clock striking midnight.
Another birthday.
Another year of life… and of lives saved.
No one knew. No one remembered.
But that’s okay.
I held my stethoscope tightly and took a deep breath — because even in silence, I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be.
While the world outside slept, I celebrated in a different way:
With every heartbeat stabilized, every tear wiped, every breath that came back.
There were no hugs, no cake, no candles.
But there was purpose.
And when I closed my eyes for a second, I thought of every life that has passed through my hands.
And of you — the ones who sometimes forget, but still give meaning to my work. ❤️
Being a doctor is about giving your heart, even when it’s tired.
And tonight, more than ever, I know it’s worth it.
