A piece of St. Paul Rodeo history rolls into the arena with the iconic Stagecoach. You might recognize the couple riding on top — David and Mary Jane Krier, longtime St. Paul Rodeo members, dedicated volunteers, and 2025 St. Paul Rodeo Hall of Fame inductees. Mary Jane also proudly represented our rodeo as the 1969 St. Paul Rodeo Queen.

We’re grateful for the generations of members and volunteers whose dedication, hard work, and love for this rodeo have helped shape the traditions we celebrate today.

Join us for Slack!

Each event at the St. Paul Rodeo has only 8 to 12 slots per night performance — but with 80 to 90 contestants entering each event, not everyone makes the evening show. That is where slack comes in. Slack is a separate competition session held outside of the main performance where the full field of contestants gets their chance to compete. Barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down roping all take place in slack — and for steer wrestling, tie-down roping, and team roping, the top 8 from each morning slack advance to that night's performance. The competition is real, and you'll even see World Champions and past St. Paul Rodeo Champions compete in slack.

And the best part? Slack is completely free to watch. Bring the kids, grab a seat close to the action, and watch some of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world go to work without the hustle of a packed grandstand.

This year's slack schedule:
June 30 — 9:00 AM
July 1 — 9:00 AM
July 2 — 2:00 PM
July 3 — 3:00 PM

Order of events each day: Steer Wrestling, Tie-Down Roping, Team Roping, Barrel Racing.

This past weekend, Queen Morgan, Princess Annika, and I had the privilege of representing St. Paul at the Biggest Little Show in the World—the one and only Sisters Rodeo.

Throughout the weekend, we enjoyed meeting fans, signing autographs, and connecting with the rodeo community.

On Saturday morning, we participated in the parade, where we had the opportunity to see so many familiar faces along the route.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us so warmly. We look forward to seeing many of you as we continue on down the rodeo road!

Be sure to join us next weekend at the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville, Oregon.

In rodeo, an empty saddle says everything.

The tradition of the riderless horse — saddle cinched, stirrups empty — is one of the most powerful tributes in the western world. It's the sport's way of saying their place in the arena is held.

As we head into the 90th St. Paul Rodeo, we carry that spirit with us. This milestone belongs to every person who helped build it — the founding eight directors who started with a belief in this community, the generations of committee members and volunteers who gave their summers to this event, the cowboys and cowgirls who competed here, the contract personnel who made every performance run, and the animal athletes who gave everything they had in this arena. Not all of them are still with us. But every one of them is part of what brought us to 90 years.

We tip our hats to the ones who rode before us. A life well lived leaves a legacy that goes on and on — and in St. Paul, that legacy rides again every 4th of July.

Happy Flag Day from the St. Paul Rodeo. 🇺🇸

Flag Day is celebrated every June 14th, marking the anniversary of the day in 1777 when the Continental Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States. It is a day to reflect on what that flag represents — the history, the sacrifice, and the enduring values that have held this country together for nearly 250 years.

In rodeo, the flag has always held a place of special reverence. The grand entry is one of the sport's oldest and most sacred traditions, opening every performance with a display of horsemanship, pageantry, and patriotism that sets the tone for everything that follows. Riders carry state and national flags into the arena at full gallop, the crowd rises, and for a moment everyone in the building is united by something bigger than the competition about to take place.

At the St. Paul Rodeo, that tradition goes back to 1936. Every single performance — across nine decades, through rain and heat and the energy of a packed 4th of July grandstand — has opened the same way. The flag comes in on horseback, hats come off, and this community pauses together in a moment of gratitude and pride that never gets old. For decades, one man carried that flag for over 300 performances in this arena, a commitment that speaks to what the grand entry truly means to the people who have built and loved this rodeo.

On Flag Day, we are reminded of why that moment matters. The St. Paul Rodeo has always believed that the 4th of July is about more than rodeo — it is about community, tradition, and the values that bring people together year after year. In two weeks, that flag rides in again. We hope to see you on your feet.

The Tack Room Saloon will be open daily during the 90th St. Paul Rodeo and will feature a rodeo livestream of every performance!

Tuesday, June 30 – Opening at 5 PM. Join us as we recognize the first responders who volunteer behind the bar, with special signage highlighting those who have served or continue to serve our communities. Plus non-alcoholic mocktails and NA beer available throughout the week.

Wednesday, July 1 – Opening at 5 PM. Celebrate Agriculture Night with us as we honor the agricultural roots that make the St. Paul Rodeo possible.

Thursday, July 2 – Opening at 4 PM. Celebrity Bartending Night featuring local radio personalities Jake and Mallory from The Morning Stampede, JT from Middays, B Dub from the Evening Show, Mike Barrett, and additional special guests.

Friday, July 3 – Opening at 2:30 PM. Enjoy live music from Austin Sweeney from 3–5 PM, followed by our Royalty Reunion Bartenders from 5–7 PM.

Saturday, July 4 – Opening at Noon. Kick off Independence Day with Bloody Marys and Mimosas while we recognize veterans serving behind the bar, with signage highlighting their military branches.

Today the St. Paul Rodeo is guided by eleven board of directors — volunteers from the community who give their time and passion to producing one of the best rodeos in professional rodeo. It has not always been eleven. The rodeo was founded in 1935 by eight local farmers and businessmen who served as the original board. In 1940, as crowds grew and the event expanded, the bylaws were amended to add a ninth member. The board stayed at nine for nearly eight decades, until 2018 when it grew to eleven — a reflection of how much this organization has grown since its beginnings.

What has never changed in 90 years is the kind of people who serve. The St. Paul Rodeo Board of Directors has always been made up of neighbors — people who believe in this event and in this town. They have built grandstands, seized opportunities, and reinvested in these grounds year after year for no reason other than pride in what St. Paul has created. Every one of them carries forward a tradition started by the eight who believed their small Oregon town deserved something great.
We're thankful for each and every person who has helped guide our rodeo through the years.
