Most people think poor gut health just means bloating or heartburn. But your gut is connected to almost every system in your body.‼️

When your gut microbiome is out of whack, it shows up physically in ways you might not expect…Here is a few.

Chronic Fatigue‼️

Constantly tired even after 8 hours of sleep? Your gut produces a massive amount of the body's serotonin, which regulates sleep.

Skin Flare-Ups‼️

Eczema, psoriasis, and random breakouts are often just your gut inflammation reflecting on the outside.

Brain Fog‼️

That fuzzy, unfocused feeling is a direct result of the gut-brain axis. If your gut is inflamed, your brain feels it.

Sugar Cravings‼️

An overgrowth of "bad" bacteria can actually hijack your cravings, demanding sugar and processed carbs to feed themselves.

Frequent Colds‼️

Over 70% of your immune system lives in your gut.
If you catch every bug going around, look at your digestion first.
Listen to your body! It speaks in symptoms, not words.

What’s one symptom that surprised you on this list?

Real Farm Yogurt vs. Store Bought

Is Your "Health Food" Actually Hurting Your Gut?

Most people eat yogurt for one big reason…gut health. But if you flip over the average grocery store tub, you might be surprised to find that commercial yogurt looks a lot less like real cultured dairy and a lot more like an ultra processed snack.

Here is what happens behind the scenes of commercial tubs versus what we culture by hand in our farm kitchen.

Farmhouse Cultured Yogurt Pros

Trillions of live, active cultures!
Slow, 12-to-24-hour incubation allows probiotics to multiply naturally, delivering up to hundreds of times more beneficial bacteria than fast-fermented store cups.

Naturally low in lactose.
A long, uninterrupted ferment lets the bacteria consume most of the milk sugars (lactose), making it gentle on sensitive stomachs.

Zero fillers or gums…That thick, creamy texture comes naturally from healthy milk proteins and gentle straining not industrial starched.

Just 2 pure ingredients! Fresh whole milk and active starter cultures. No added sugars, no artificial flavors, and zero preservatives.

Cons… Shorter shelf life…

Because it is a living, raw active food without chemical preservatives, it keeps for a couple of weeks rather than sitting on a shelf for months.
Darn a few weeks. Doesn’t really even sound like a con to me.

Store Bought Commercial Yogurt Pros

Cheap and long-lasting..Inexpensive and stays "good" in the fridge for weeks or months.

Cons

Rushed fermentation!

Commercial factories often cut fermentation times down to just a few hours, leaving high levels of intact lactose that trigger bloating and sluggish digestion.

Preservatives that kill the benefits‼️

Many commercial brands add potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate to stop yeast and mold.

Clinical findings indexed on PubMed show that these antimicrobials suppress beneficial gut bacteria like Faecalibacterium, counteracting the probiotics you bought the yogurt for in the first place.

Gut irritating thickeners & emulsifiers, To compensate for watered-down milk and short ferment times, factories dump in carrageenan, modified corn starch, and cellulose gum. 🤮

Research on PMC demonstrates that additives like carrageenan can thin the gut's mucosal barrier, spark intestinal inflammation, and contribute to "leaky gut.

Hidden sugar overload..

Many "healthy" fruit and vanilla flavors pack more added sugar than a doughnut, driving blood sugar spikes and systemic inflammation.

The Bottom Line

Real yogurt is alive, tangy, and simple. Your gut knows the difference between cultured food and chemical shortcuts!

It is so easy to make!!!

How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time!

Making changes in our lives takes time. It is totally possible! But we have to learn, plan, and commit. Then be patient as we walk it out!

If I can do it anyone can!

It is possible!!

Old saying I love….

How do you eat an elephant⁉️

DID YOU KNOW?

That 3-week-old store bread isn’t magic?

It’s potassium sorbate.

• Kills mold on the shelf, then attacks good bacteria in your gut.
• Erodes your gut's protective lining ("leaky gut").
• Triggers chronic, low-grade bodily inflammation‼️

The good news‼️⁉️

Swapping to real, fermented sourdough gives your gut the reset it needs‼️

To make my sourdough pasta in a bread maker it takes 5 mins! Just throw ingredients in and let it do the work!

Wrap in airtight bag put in fridge overnight to ferment.

When you’re ready to roll out. Pull it out and set on counter for a few hrs in advance.

Roll it out, I use my mixer attachment to cut. Takes about 15-20 mins. I work on putting on meat and sauce while I cut. Sometimes I make a few batches and vacuum seal with oxygen absorber. Then I will have it already, ready with just a little bit extra time.

It’s really not a lot. When we look at how much time we spend on scrolling, TV, social media, reading, whatever it maybe. What’s one thing we don’t really need to be doing that we can switch it out with to steward are bodies that God gave us well? It’s worth it for our health and taste.

Why We Bake Real Sourdough (And Skip the Store Bread Aisle)

Ever wonder why a slice of grocery store white bread can sit on your counter for weeks without molding, while a farmhouse loaf stays simple and natural?

Here is the quick breakdown of what goes into real bread vs. mass-market loaves,

Farm Fresh Sourdough Pros,

Naturally easy to digest…
A slow, 24-hour wild fermentation predigests heavy gluten and stubborn starches so you avoid tummy aches and post meal bloat.

No blood sugar crash..
Fermentation acids lower the bread's glycemic response, giving you steady, lasting energy.

Bioavailable nutrients…
Natural acids break down anti-nutrients (phytates), letting your body absorb minerals like iron, zinc, and magnesium.

Just 3 pure ingredients!!! Flour, water, and salt. That’s it.

Cons is it really though!?!?
No chemical shelf life…Because it’s real food, you need to eat it within a few days or freeze it for later.

Store Bought Commercial Bread pros,

Cheap and convenient…Available at every store and stays soft forever.

Cons,
Gut-irritating antimicrobials…
Preservatives like calcium propionate prevent mold, but they also kill off beneficial bacteria in your digestive system.

Damaging emulsifiers & conditioners..
Chemical additives (DATEM, mono-diglycerides, and bleaching agents) speed up factory baking, but they degrade the protective lining of your gut and can spark low-grade inflammation‼️

Spikes your sugar…
Fast-acting baker’s yeast and ultra-refined flours quickly convert to simple sugars in your bloodstream, triggering rapid energy crashes.

Real food spoils; real ingredients nourish.

Fresh Farm Sourdough Pasta vs. Store Bought….

The Real Difference….

Ever look at the back of a grocery store pasta package and wonder why fresh dough can sit on a shelf for months?

Here is what goes into mass-produced pasta versus what we craft by hand in our farm kitchen.

Homemade Sourdough PastaPros,

Natural gut support. Wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria break down complex starches and dense gluten before you ever cook it, preventing post pasta bloating and sluggishness.I

Increased nutrient absorption.
Natural fermentation neutralizes phytic acid, allowing your body to absorb essential minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc.

Steadier blood sugar.
Organic acids slow the conversion of carbohydrates into glucose, providing smooth, sustained energy without an insulin spike.

Pure ingredients,
Made strictly with wholesome unbleached flour, active wild starter, farm eggs or water, and salt.

Rich, artisan flavor,
A silky texture and mild, rustic tang that mass manufacturing cannot replicate

Store Bought

Inexpensive and ready to boil right out of the pantry.
Long shelf life,
Stays edible for months or years in a cupboard.

Cons,
Unfermented, heavy starches.

Skips the slow fermentation step, making gluten and starches harder to digest and leaving many people feeling heavy and lethargic.

Rapid blood sugar surges: Ultra-refined, high-speed milled flours digest quickly into simple sugars, causing energy spikes and crashes.

The Hidden Cost……

Why Preservatives & Additives Harm Your Body.
Chemical antimicrobials (e.g., potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate).

Used in commercial refrigerated pasta to stop mold and yeast growth. Because they are designed to kill microbes, research published via PubMed shows they also suppress beneficial gut bacteria like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, leading to gut dysbiosis.

Industrial emulsifiers & gums (e.g., cellulose gum, polysorbates, mono- and diglycerides).

Added so factory machines can handle dough without tearing.

Medical researchers at University Hospitals report these agents can thin and erode the protective mucus barrier of the gut lining, potentially contributing to "leaky gut" and irritable bowel symptoms.

Systemic low-grade inflammation.

Disrupting your microbiome and intestinal barrier causes food particles and bacterial toxins to interact directly with the immune system, contributing to chronic inflammation, joint stiffness, skin flare-ups, and immune stress.
