Hi, my name is April Thomas and I am the artist and owner of Apie Ann’s Art Cart. I am a 49 year old mom of two girls. I have spent my entire life caring for other people. I have cared for my younger brothers, raised my children, taken in children who were not mine and raised them, and generally worked towards offering peace and light to those around me.

That is not to say I have not seen darkness. I have battled addiction multiple times. I have been a victim of assault. I have been a survivor of domestic violence.

I have lived with the consequences of my own actions, and actions that were not mine, over and over; yet, throughout the rollercoaster of my life, art has been there.

Art has been my salvation when it didn’t feel like God was listening.
Art has been my brightness when the days were darkest.
Art has been my spirit drafted out onto torn notebook pages when no one understood me.

I have spent a lot of my life filling in holes left by myself and others, but now I am healing those holes. I am focusing on art and what art brings to me and can bring to others. I use mixed media art to showcase the natural beauties we often overlook. I love nature’s guidance in both my spiritual journey as an individual and as the second hand to my brushstrokes.

When someone looks at my art, I would like them to see colors they missed when they looked around. I want them to see parts and pieces of the world around them as clearly as if they were standing there, in the middle of the canvas. I want them to see what we miss every day and hopefully, just maybe, they will smile and realize the colors around them are more vibrant when we look closer.
