The clock is ticking...there are only 20 days left to get sizable discounts on season ticket packages. We just had a patron come in who has been buying single tickets for the past 2 years. He finally realized that for about the same price with the discounts we apply, that he could get the whole season. He bought 2 packages. And remember, if you don't use all the tickets you can donate them back tot he SJS and we will give them to students or others who may not have the resources but want to attend a perfromance.. As July 4th lands on a Saturday this year and is an offcial holiday of the SJS, per our Employee Handbook, we will be observing the holiday on Friday, July 3rd and the office will be closed. We wish everyone a safe and happy celebration of the 250th of the U.S.!

In today's New York Times, Jeffrey Arlo Brown writes, “In 1778, a young musician named Marie-Louise-Philippine de Bonnières de Guînes was sitting in a composition lesson in Paris, trying to come up with a melody…. Finally, her teacher—Mozart—wrote the beginning of a tune and asked her to continue it…. Mozart complained that his pupil, a duke’s daughter who was a talented harpist, completed her music theory exercises well enough, but ‘had no ideas at all.’… On Friday, the National Library of France announced the discovery of a 44-page notebook from de Guînes’s lessons. The notebook offers an extraordinary window into Mozart’s teaching method, showing his corrections and improvements on de Guînes’s work. The discovery also yields repertoire pieces marked by Mozart’s imagination: seven previously unknown works for flute and harp. Experts say that while de Guînes composed these works under her teacher’s guidance, Mozart penned a substantial portion of the music himself…. François-Pierre Goy, a conservator at the National Library, said he had been looking through a stack of anonymous manuscripts in February … when a notebook caught his eye…. Most of the rediscovered pieces are light, short works.”
