This special figure was sponsored by Scott and Ina Krenek of Krenek RV in Coloma. As riders of the original Silver Beach Carousel, their family history is beautifully woven into the original Silver Beach Amusement Park and the Shadowland Ballroom. Their incredible support helps keep our local history alive while connecting generations of riders to our historic national celebration!

Step back in time! ✨ Did you know that the legacy of the Silver Beach Carousel began all the way back in 1891?

Founded by Louis Wallace and Logan Drake, the Silver Beach Amusement Park started as a simple boardwalk on the shores of Lake Michigan. For 80 years, it grew into a beloved destination filled with carnival games, roller coasters and the famous Shadowland Ballroom.

Because the original park closed its gates in 1971, most of our current visitors never got to see it in its prime — but you can still experience the magic today!

Next time you visit, stop by the Brass Ring Gift Shop to see the Silver Beach Amusement Park Diorama. Handcrafted by the late volunteer Ralph "Mr. Wizard" Kitron, this masterpiece whirls and spins to life just like the original park once did. Drop in a coin, push the button and watch dancers glide across the ballroom, figures move up and down the boardwalk and the Carousel spin! 🎠

The Silver Beach Carousel is closed today, Monday, May 25, as we take a moment to observe Memorial Day and remember our brave heroes.

While Memorial Day weekend often feels like the unofficial start of summer, its roots run much deeper. Originally known as Decoration Day, this day of remembrance began in the years following the Civil War as a time to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. In 1971, it became an official federal holiday, dedicated to honoring all American military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country❤️🤍💙

The Silver Beach Carousel is officially dressed up in its patriotic best to celebrate America 250! From twinkling lights to star-spangled banners, we’re ready for a summer of spins, smiles and making memories🇺🇸

Happy World Turtle Day from "Wind in the Dunes," our vibrant Carousel horse figure honoring the heritage and culture of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.

Traditionally, clans – groups of families – governed tribal communities. Each clan had a uniquely important role in the community. The Turtle Clan was responsible for caring for earth and water, making sure natural resources were in harmony with the people.

In harmony with the ecologically-oriented Turtle Clan, our Carousel deck is made from bamboo, one of the fastest-growing plants on earth. As a renewable natural resource, it is the ideal platform for our machine. Our figures are carved from basswood, which grows faster than most American hardwoods.

Climb aboard for your next ride to enjoy all the magnificent carvings up close – including the important green turtle!

First observed on May 20th, 1950, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on third Saturday of May each year. It is dedicated to all military veterans who previously served. This day is distinctly separate from Memorial Day, which is dedicated to all who perished while in active service.

Among the many monuments in Lake Bluff Park, "The Spirit of the American Doughboy" is the only one dedicated to WWI soldiers. It was made from an original sculpture by Dick Viquesney, a talented sculptor and engraver. Dedicated on November 11, 1930, the figure depicts a soldier moving forward, gr***de in hand with a rifle and bayonet in his other hand.

It has been called "..the most famous World War I memorial stature that few have ever heard of..." While there are dozens more around the United States, the statue in St. Joseph is one of only two in Michigan.

Whenever we view "The Doughboy", we are reminded of the brave men and women who serve our country with courage, strength and sacrifice.
