⚔️ THE ARMORY — a solo exhibition by Krow Zagars

What happens when you take found metal, industrial materials, medieval weaponry, and a whole lot of creativity? You get The Armory. 👀

This summer, CSB art major Krow Zagars was awarded an Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholars (OURS) Summer Research Fellowship, for which they received stipend funding to live and work on campus and produce artwork full-time throughout the summer.

Working with Professor Steven Lemke, Krow explored medieval weaponry through a contemporary, human-centered lens—transforming found materials into experimental sculptural armaments for an ever-changing world.

Now, Krow has brought that work to the Exit Gallery inside the SJU Art Center!

Krow also has related sculpture on display at Last Word Tattoo in downtown St. Cloud.

🎨 Art is happening beyond campus!

We love seeing our students getting their work out into the community, connecting with other artists, and finding new places to share their creativity. 🙌

And Krow? Definitely one to watch. 👀 Last year, they took 1st Place in the All Student Juried Art Exhibition and is also our Art Club President.

Plus… there’s more to come. 🤫✨

This summer, Art major Sophie Pennings is immersing herself in undergraduate research at CSB+SJU, exploring the connections between landscape, ecology, and artistic practice alongside Professor Elaine Rutherford.

Through the project, Sophie is engaging in hands-on research that includes observing, collecting site samples, reading, discussion, experimental fieldwork, and artmaking. Together, they are investigating how creative practice can deepen our relationship with the natural world and foster ecological awareness.

Set against the beautiful landscape of CSB+SJU, this collaborative research experience combines artistic exploration, environmental inquiry, and creative experimentation.

We love seeing our students engage in meaningful research that blends creativity, curiosity, and a sense of wonder.

✨ Applications are now open for the Sister Dennis Frandrup Artist Residency at CSB/SJU!
Spend six weeks in Minnesota (April 5–May 16, 2027) with studio access on both campuses, private lodging, and a modest stipend. The selected artist will also present a public talk and open studio event.
