Lets talk monkey-tails, I mean string-pins!
We want to know what our bowers are thinking about this technology.
One option offers a controlled, master precision, almost zero pin calls, next to no labor or mechanic needed, and the other offers excitement with seekers, messengers, tomahawkers, cartwheelers, dancers, deadwood, and out-of-ranges, off spots, pile-ups, and a potential for shutdowns.
String versus freefall. Some would say, real versus fake.
There are very real pros and cons with both methods of mechanics and technology.
We are interested in your thoughts; make sure you say whether you prefer open play or league bowling, too!
Have you ever bowled where they had sting pins?

The pigeon has arrived! Here's !

A few summer leagues to report on, beginning with the PBA Pattern League. Pattern the first two weeks has been the USBC Queens, which can be high scoring, but it’s no house shot!

The women went AWOL during week #1, so just the guys’ scores, where two-handed lefty Taj Forney ripped 255, Damion Loop spun 214, and two-handed righty Tyler Bissell flipped a couple of deuces—204 and 202. For series, Forney’s 615 earned bragging rights, followed by Bissell’s 595.

For week #2, Forney seemed to like this pattern, running away with series of 652, powered by three deuces, 221 being the max, Alex Hamilton recovered from last week to score 226 and 613. For the ladies, Carla Miller rolled 200.

I also have two weeks’ worth of numbers for the Have a Ball league—and there are two of them! Jim Adams blasted 247 and 673, Rick Oliver tossed 200, and Brenda Overstreet checked in with a 202 game. This pattern is the less forgiving house shot, so scores will tend to be higher. Bowl on them both and find out how hard the PBA shots are!

For the second week, Adams again led scoring with 204 and 559, and Steve Rossa notched 192. Carla Adams was tops for the ladies with 152 and 416.

A second Have a Ball league will begin on Sunday the 7th.

The Juniors are close to wrapping up their 33 weeks of bowling, and Charlie Oliver flattened 257 and 638, Keagan Dubach pitched 215/588, and Evanii Long paced the girls with a hefty 192 game.

At press time, information on the second PBA pattern was not available.

If you’ve read this far, you’re all caught up! Now go enjoy some sunshine, then come back and work on your game to get YOUR name in lights!

See you at the lanes!

Last Wednesday, the Golddiggers wrapped up their season with a rolloff between Children’s Closet, led by Kim Wridge, and St Helens Marina, with Jackie Jackson sporting team-high average.

Jackie shot 181 and 473, and Karen Himes rolled up 184 and 476 to pace the St Helens team, who took three of four from Children’s Closet. The Closet gals gave up 30 pins because Jeanne Crawford was absent, but the win was 73 pins, so those 30 forfeited pins didn’t figure into the season finale. Kim’s 416 was tops for the now-2nd-place Children’s Closet team.

A great league, and I’m already looking forward to September!

And Rivertowne last week finished up, but it was uneventful in terms of rolloffs, as Beer Brothers (or Beer Bros, as they like to be called, perhaps a tip of the cap to Dutch Bros) won both halves. These dudes (and dudettes) are unstoppable!

I don’t have scores of Rivertowne’s last week, which featured the rolloff for second place, but I have something of interest, which is how the averages stacked up.

Tyler Bissell finished his first season in the adult leagues with the second-highest league average, a stellar 226, just four pins behind Alex Hamilton’s blistering 230-per-game score. Stan Lorimor ripped up 217, Demareo Fricks took home fourth-place honors with his 211 average, Chris Mongelli also pitched 211, but only for 18 games, Joey McInjuredList sort of tied up with Hayden Overstreet at 207, but Joey gets credit for more games and therefore more total pins, Gerald Stacey and Matt Shaw were percentage points apart with their 206 averages, Ethan Smith ended up at 205, Brian McCollum checked in with a fine 204, and Garrett Smith finished the league with 202.

For the lasses, Carla Miller ended the campaign with 186, teammate Kate Olson finished with 181, and Christy Luzader, who had some very fine games throughout the year, clocked a final average of 175.

Honorable mention goes to Phil Soth, who endured insurmountable odds (if you know, you know) and finished with a 175 average. You’ll remember Phil’s otherworldly 847 series in 2019, I think it was, and if you don’t, you should. The quiet man started striking on Thursday night and just never stopped, finishing the evening with what was then the third highest series ever bowled at OTL. Jake Klemsen has since pushed everyone down a notch, so Phil’s mammoth 847 can never be overlooked. We love you, Phil!

And that, as they say, is a wrap on an incredible and fun 2025-2026 season! If you’re signed up for summer bowling, you probably already know your starting dates, but if not, I’ll happily remind you:

The PBA Sport Shot League, or “Mixed PBA Pattern,” as they call it, begins NEXT MONDAY at 6:30 pm. Have-a-Ball (Wednesday) starts up next Wednesday, the 18th, at 6:30, and Have-a-Ball (Sunday) rolls their first games Sunday evening June 7th at 5:30 pm. League fees are $15 for the Have-a-Ball leagues and $20 for the PBA sport league.

We also have “Drop-in” leagues on Saturday (for juniors), 9:30 am for $10, and seniors on Mondays at 11 am. Seniors get colored pins, so they can win a free game by striking on a red head pin. Just show up and bowl for practice, easy as pi ‘r’ squared!

That’s it!

And from my heart, it’s been loads of fun for me, keeping tabs on all your bowlers and your scoring. I’m looking forward to continuing throughout the summer, and, God willing, I’ll be back for another year in September.

Enjoy your summer, and don’t forget us! We have great per-game prices to help you keep your game at a high level, as well as an awesome pro shop to keep your equipment at state-of-the-art level and functioning to its best.

Stay safe, and we’ll see you here!

Let's get to it!! is here with your

As Sonny and Cher once sang, the beat goes on, at least for the rest of the league. Teams from both leagues, Golddiggers and Rivertowne, remain in the hunt for the championship trophy. The ladies of Wednesday nights will roll off next week, and the entire Rivertowne gang rolls off in two weeks.

In last night’s Golddiggers action, Bianca Harringon was five pins up on Connie Beaulac and Kelley McCarty, as Bianca threw a 186 game to Connie’s 181. For series, Connie reached in and grabbed honors with 498, while Bianca cooled to 488. And in a battle of the Debs, Deb Carpenter had third-high series with her 471, and Debbie Urbanski tossed a 176 game.

In the Rivertowne league on Thursday, Alex Hamilton, who does what all serious bowlers should do by practicing (a lot!), again ripped the coverstock off the ball—but so did Demareo Fricks, as the two knotted up with monster 278 games, one rocking, swaying pin better than Michael Rhodes, who blasted 277. Joe Shelton ripped 257, Tyler Bissell two-handedly scored 247, Matt Shaw tied Gerald Stacey at 245, Bob “I told you, I go by Robert!” Gisselberg pitched a 244 game, and Hayden “I look more and more like Aaron Judge every day” Overstreet couldn’t shake Chuck “I’m taller than Hayden” Hildrith, both maxing out at 232.

Hamilton’s 773 is still echoing on someone’s seismograph, Rhodes rocked 711, Shelton missed seven by 18 with his 682 blast, Stacey added 677, Bissell got past Yankee Boy, 657 to 652, Brian McCollum pitched 641, Shaw for 634, and Stan Lorimor edged Hildrith, 621 to 618.

For the gals, Carla Miller has been feasting on Wheaties lately as she mashed a 236 game, Lynda Woodall twirled 225, smooth-as-silk Christy Luzader stroked 210, and Amy Cole had a nice 205 game.

Carla’s 623 set was best, teammate Kate Olson squeezed by Christy, 564 to 560, Lynda totaled 523, Dianna Howerton tied Deirdre Hubler at 514, and Amy got past Julie Stacey, 504 to 500.

Old friend and lefty Wanita Warren scored 159 and 450, which won’t turn any heads, but her effort didn’t go unnoticed! Hi, Wanita!

We still have openings for summer leagues! Check in with the super-friendly desk folks to sign up, or give us a shout at 503-397-1011.

There’s roll-off action to report on, but before I delve into that, I have a personal note I’d like to include.

It had been three years since I’d been at the lanes—time flies, doesn’t it? Desperate for a change of scenery, I booked a hotel room for two nights and drove to St Helens. Just because. Seeing so many old friends—people I’ve bowled with, bowlers I’d never met but whose scores I often write about—was well worth the long drive.

As it turned out, most leagues were wrapping up their season, and the two days I was there would feature “fun night,” which turned out to be Monte Carlo! Bakers Dozen and Merri-Mixers needed a caller, so they tackled me and shoved a microphone in my face. You can bet I fought them tooth and nail. I haven’t had that much fun since, well, the last time I called Monte Carlo. Thanks for giving me the opportunity!

Before I get to current events, Rivertowne, which still has a couple of weeks to go, had Alex Hamilton crushing 289 and a monster 777 set, Brian McCollum flattened 269, Tyler Bissell was a mark better than Joe Shelton, 267 to 257, Demareo Fricks curled 255, Kerry Robinson threw 247, Garrett Smith twirled 239, Thomas Brannon eked by Mike Marsh by a single wobbling pin, 234 to 233, and Josh Tolman didn’t get the checkered flag, but he did get his names in lights with a 226 game.

After Hamilton’s tripled sevens, McCollum and Garrett S each threw 7s, 717 and 703 respectively. Fricks missed the boat by a mark at 690, Bissell landed on 684, Brannon stroked 665, Shelton finished with 653, Ethan of S-town notched 632, and it was Marsh past Michael Rhodes by a nose, 624 to 623.

Carla Miller torched 226 and 643 for the gals, and Lynda Woodall ripped 223 and 520.

In Friday’s Columbian trios, Mike Oylear earned high game with his 221, and in a battle of the Johns, McGinnis beat Fortney, 216 to 202. McG also took high series with 594 over Fortney’s 590.

Lefty Laura Cowling made a rare appearance, bowling from my side of the lane, taking game and series with 226 and 571.

Charlie Oliver owned the Juniors on Saturday at 199 and 563, and Evanii Long’s 172/452 were tops for the girls. Up-and-coming star Johnnie Eland rolled a 34 game and a 75 series, and that deserves honorable mention. Keep at it, Johnnie!

Tyler Bissell lit up his lanes with 277 and 717 in Monday’s Covered Wagon, Thomas Brannon rolled 248 and 689, Chris Mongelli curled 247 and 688. Even Brandon Smith made the list with a 677 set. Mikel Fox was good for 233/627, and if I don’t mention Chuck Hildrith’s 231, he’ll come over here and chop down my trees. Pacific Stainless, after taking the first half, came back to win the league over Dixi Allen.

Southpaw Darlene Loop knotted up with Stephanie Munro for high game honors with 168, but Darlene’s 462 was tops. Janet Schappert rolled 118 and 328.

Brenda Overstreet’s 179 and 478 led scoring in Tuesday’s Bakers Dozen ladies league, in a week that only counted for colored pins, 50-50 drawings, and fun—oh my! Old friend Donna Bucar pitched a 161 and 451. Making the week’s top scores included Carla Adams’s 124 game and Lori Pardue’s 332 series. No, these scores are not going to rattle anyone’s seismic scale, but all the ladies had fun!

In the Hits and Misses at 1pm in their swan song appearance, Jim Adams led scoring for the gents with 213 and 599, as did Brenda Overstreet for the lasses, 206 and 555.

I’ve chased tornadoes for more than twenty years, and I’d never seen a “spare-nado” until this past week. There’s one—check that, four in the Merri-Mixers, and they were facing off against the Buzzer Beaters, consisting of the Arnott clan, who won the first half. Despite a herculean effort by Cameron Arnott, who blasted his all-time high game of 246 to nab high game for the night, their third game rally wasn’t enough. Dad Scott Arnott corkscrewed 236, Jamey Spofford of the opposing ‘nadoes, twisted 231, Denver Skalbeck notched 224, old teammate Jim Johnson erupted for 216, and Joe Shelton got past Shane Forsi by one, 214 to 213.

Spofford’s 667 series was what pushed the ‘nadoes’ season past the finish line, Dad Arnott pitched 638, Cameron ripped 628, and Skalbeck tossed 611.

Ladies’ scores for Merri-Mixers is missing, wouldn’t ya know it?

A hearty congratulations to Spare-Nadoes for their championship win. I’ll look for them on the Great Plains next time I chase. And a warm congrats to Pacific Stainless, Covered Wagon champs again!

That’s it, already! It seems as though the season just got underway, doesn’t it?

Summer fun awaits you at Oregon Trail Lanes. We have the PBA sport shot and Have-a-Ball leagues, and a parking lot fun “corn hole” event. Folks at the desk will be happy to sign you up if you haven’t already.

I plan on keeping you up to date throughout the summer, although I have no clue how to write up the parking lot event. For bowling, I have you covered.
