Great Southern Cracker Roadshow

Great Southern Cracker Roadshow From the front porch of rural America comes a full-blooded celebration of the stories, songs, and essential spirit of the Cracker culture.

The ways of the Cracker are brought live to the stage in an authentic traveling roadshow that features two homegrown Crackers, pure picking bluegrass music, traditional foods, homespun folklore, and a mess of surprises. It is a fun, entertaining Cracker sampler, a quilting of nearly all things Cracker, from cowhunter whip-cracking to buck dancing.

What exactly is a “Cracker”?

The Great Southern Cracker Roadshow offers an entertaining, informative look at a slice of old Florida culture.

For over 200 years scholars have attempted to define Florida Crackers, but their name is as elusive as their nature, their character as tough as Florida’s hardscrabble countryside, and any real Cracker will tell you that’s just the way they like it.

Part history, part folklore, The Great Southern Cracker Roadshow is a generously entertaining account of Cracker heritage, its rich history, and its disappearance as today’s fast-paced society reaches even into the remote backwoods of the state.

From the language they spoke to the houses they built, from clandestine moonshine stills and cowhunting to “grits and gravy,” the Great Southern Cracker Roadshow offers a colorful and revealing tour of Crackerdom.
