Discoveries of a Tampan living in St. Augustine
At the Monson Motel in 1964 the owner poured acid into the pool while civil rights activists were swimming. The photo went national, and in days the stalled Civil Rights passed. There is even a plaque under water for swimmers to read!

The British transferred their fort on the Appalachicola River in Florida to their black allies. After the fort blew up, their families retreated down the peninsula to the Tampa Bay area and established free communities. They wouldn't give up on freedom!
