SJCCA THEATRE PRESENTS… The Curious Savage 🧸

A fantastic opening night for SJCCA Theatre! After a very massive 2-day technical difficulty, thank you to SJCSD, SAHS Administration, and for lending us your lighting console. As they say, the show must go on! Bravo to the cast and crew of The Curious Savage. If you missed last night- you still have a few chances to see the remainder of our run on Saturday and Sunday!

The Curious Savage by John Patrick is a warmhearted and witty comedy that celebrates kindness, imagination, and the courage to be oneself. Presented by SJCCA Theatre at St. Augustine High School, the play follows Ethel P. Savage, a wealthy widow whose generosity and free spirit clash with her greedy stepchildren. In their attempt to control her fortune, they place her in a mental institution known as the Cloisters.

At the Cloisters, Mrs. Savage meets a group of residents who are labeled “unusual” by society but reveal themselves to be sincere, compassionate, and deeply human. This gentle and humorous setting becomes a place of healing and self-expression, where creativity and individuality are encouraged rather than suppressed. In contrast to the cold ambitions of the outside world, the Cloisters highlights the importance of empathy, acceptance, and emotional well-being.
Blending clever humor with heartfelt moments, The Curious Savage includes thoughtful discussions of mental health while reminding audiences that kindness and understanding matter more than wealth or status.

Hello SJCCA Community! We have a very important announcement from Mr. Brown regarding our new SJCCA Dance Director 🎉🩰✨

‘Dear SJCCA Dance Community,

It is with great excitement that I share some exciting news with our SJCCA family. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Macy D***s as the new SJCCA Dance Program Director at St. Augustine High School.

Ms. D***s is truly one of our own. A proud SAHS and SJCCA alumn from the Class of 2020, she developed her passion and talent for the arts right here on our campus. During her time at SAHS, Ms. D***s thrived in our arts program under the leadership of Kaila Schippani, Jeff Dodd, and Anthony Romeo. She was a standout leader in SJCCA Chorus, Musical Theatre, and Dance, and she was also an original member of the “The Collective”—helping to shape the very program she will now lead.

Following graduation, Ms. D***s continued her artistic journey at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music. While at Belmont, she demonstrated the same entrepreneurial spirit and leadership we saw in her at SAHS by founding the university’s first competitive dance team, the Belmont IGNITE Dance Team.

Ms. D***s comes to us highly recommended by members of the national arts community as well as by current and former members of our SJCCA staff, and we are thrilled to welcome her back to the Yellow Jacket Family. Her passion for the performing arts is matched by her commitment to students. She believes deeply in creating a rich educational experience that prepares young artists for success—whether their future lies on the stage, in front of a crowd, behind the scenes, or in any path they choose to pursue.

At the same time, I want to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Kaila Schippani for the tremendous work she has done building and elevating our SJCCA Dance Program. Her leadership helped establish a strong foundation that will continue to benefit our students for years to come.

There is something special about welcoming home one of our own. Ms. D***s represents the very best of the Total Yellow Jacket Experience—a student who grew, led, and succeeded within SJCCA and is now returning to pour that same passion back into the next generation of performers.

Please join me in giving Ms. Macy D***s a warm SJCCA and Yellow Jacket welcome as she begins this exciting new chapter with our dance program.

S.W.A.R.M. Together,
Travis Brown

SJCCA THEATRE takes on Florida State Thespians Mainstage! 🎭✨

We had the privilege and honor of bringing World Builders to the TECO Black Box in the Straz Center for Florida Thespians. What an absolute whirlwind living with this performance this year. This story is so important and resonates with anyone who watches it.

Choosing this play was an intentional decision to challenge both the cast and the audience that watches. World Builders is not a typical production. It doesn’t offer easy answers or neat resolutions. Instead, it demands empathy, vulnerability, and imagination. In a time when discussions around mental health are growing—but still often pushed to the margins— It was vital to expose our students, and our audiences, to a piece that doesn’t shy away from the complexity of the human mind. This play explores mental health not just as a diagnosis, but as a deeply personal, lived experience—one that affects the way we love, create, and understand ourselves.

Thank you to our troupe, Troupe 2863, for supporting your peers, helping build the set, striking the set, working together, and being the biggest fans! We are a community 🌏✨💜

Thank you to for selecting our production to perform. We are grateful to the whole MainStage committee for the time and valuable critique you give our students to keep improving in their craft. We have had the best time, and these are memories that they will cherish for a lifetime!

We hope everyone who came to see the production last night enjoyed it, this production has been a labor of love and dedication since we had auditions for it in May. From the technicians to the understudies, and our main cast who spent endless amounts of hours living and breathing this script- thank you.

“My world creates feelings and passion and life. It’s a living thing” 🌏

Love, Max and Whitney

What an incredible night for our SJCCA Visual Arts Department! Last week, we debuted our new Visual Art Wall for the SAHS community. Led by the amazing Mr. Cabrera (Digital Design), Mr. Mittelstadt (2D Art), and Mrs. Stanek (3D Art), this year’s Winter Art Showcase was a huge accomplishment and a true celebration of student creativity.

We love seeing SAHS students walking through the halls, taking in the stunning artwork and supporting their fellow Yellow Jackets. Their talent, passion, and hard work shined brightly throughout the showcase!

Thank you to our teachers, students, and families for making this event so special.

Stay tuned for more highlights—and be sure to mark your calendars for our Spring Art Showcase on May 1, 2026!
