A Tree-O: Three Works with Natural Presence

Some works seem to speak to one another the moment they are placed together...

This curated grouping is united by a subtle but meaningful thread: the quiet strength of the tree. In Dean Mitchell’s painting, a single tree completes the composition and brings the work into balance. In Estella Fransbergen’s sculpture, real pine bark becomes part of the work itself, adding organic texture and a direct connection to the natural world. In Mark Wood’s hollow form, oak is transformed through craftsmanship into a sculptural vessel of warmth and presence.

Together, these three works create a refined dialogue between painting, sculpture, and natural material. Whether displayed together as a complete vignette or placed individually throughout a home, each piece brings its own character while sharing a common root.

Featured Works:

"Backyard Agricultural Empire", Watercolor, 30" x 22"; by Dean Mitchell

A quiet architectural study with the atmospheric softness and sensitivity collectors have come to expect from Dean’s work.

"High-Fired Clay Torso", Mixed-Media Sculpture with a Pine Bark and Crystal Skirt, 40" High, 19" Diameter; by Estella Fransbergen

A striking three-dimensional work combining metallic form, natural pine bark, and delicate cascading elements that catch light beautifully.

"Wrinkled", Hand-Turned Oak Hollow Form, 14" High, 15" Diameter; by Mark Wood

A warm, elegant vessel with rich natural grain and a beautifully rounded silhouette.

The furnace has gone quiet. 🔥

After 49 years, Richard Satava has officially retired from glassblowing, marking the close of an extraordinary career in contemporary American art glass.

For decades, Satava’s work has captivated collectors with its luminous color, remarkable depth, and unmistakable craftsmanship. His famed jellyfish sculptures — suspended in crystal-clear glass with flowing tendrils and layered movement — have become some of the most recognizable works in art glass today.

Cutter & Cutter Fine Art is honored to share the remaining available Satava Art Glass works from our collection, including select jellyfish sculptures and richly colored vases inspired by florals, moonlit landscapes, and nature.

As a special opportunity for collectors, available Satava works are currently offered sales tax free or with complimentary out-of-state shipping.

With the furnaces now turned off, these pieces stand as a lasting tribute to nearly five decades of artistic dedication and innovation.

View available works and contact the gallery for current availability and acquisition details.

Spend the day surrounded by art in the heart of historic downtown St. Augustine.

Today, three artists are creating live works throughout the day at Cutter & Cutter Fine Art. 🎨

• Matthew J Cutter Fine Art and Daud Akhriev Studio are painting on location in the courtyard of the Lightner Museum
• Melissa Hefferlin Studio is inside the gallery working on a still life painting live for visitors to experience

Stop by, watch the creative process unfold, and see new works take shape in real time.

Due to the warm weather, Matthew and Daud may wrap up early outdoors and continue the day back inside the gallery — so be sure to stop in either way to see all three artists at work.
