Happy Memorial Day!
This past weekend, we went on a trip to LEGOLAND Florida and Volcano Bay for the first time🎢🌋
We wanted to share our experience since we loved it so much.
First, we went to Peppa Pig theme park and Legoland. Both of these parks are VERY accommodating and handicap friendly. Mia was able to go on all the rides. Her favorites are the roller coasters 😅 both parks are geared towards younger kids, which makes these rides perfect for Mia. She can’t really go on roller coasters that go upside down. Legoland also has a disability pass called the Hero Pass, which allows us to enter the ride through the exit so that we can park Mia’s wheelchair/stroller at the exit of the ride.
Disney and Universal also have similar passes, but I think that Legoland’s is the best so far. Disney and Universal have become so strict with their disability passes due to people abusing them, that it makes it harder for us to use. Legoland is very lenient on their Hero Pass and they strive to provide the best accommodations for their disabled guests.
Their staff was extremely kind. At theme parks like these, we have to use their First Aid area to do Mia’s toileting since they have the large adult size changing tables. The staff in the First Aid area was also very nice and welcoming. We had an awesome experience and intend to return in the future!
Next, we went to Volcano Bay, Universal’s water park. Water parks are a little tricky with Mia because she can’t hold on to the rafts the whole duration of the ride. However, we really liked Volcano Bay.
The staff were very kind and willing to at least try to get her to ride. We had booked premium seating, which is lounge chairs with a big shade, for our day at the water park. When we got to the park, we ended up upgrading to a cabana. The last cabana available was on the second floor, but it conviently had a wheelchair elevator so Mia could get up to the cabana. Our cabana featured a long lounge chair, which was helpful for Mia to allow Mia to relax throughout the day, two smaller lounge chairs, a table, a mini fridge stocked with waters and a fruit/muffin basket, a food/drink server, towels and our own virtual ride kiosk.
Mia was able to go in the pool, which did have a pool lift for her to be able to get in the pool with, and the lazy river. All the other rides/slides she could not ride due to the nature of her disability. BUT, they did have two rides that had an elevator for easy handicap accessibility for others that are able to ride but cannot climb up the stairs to the top of the ride.
Our food/drink server was especially kind! He is a parent of a special needs child as well, and was super accommodating to us as a fellow special needs parent.
All in all, we highly recommend both Legoland and Volcano Bay! Both are handicap friendly and very welcoming to children and adults with disabilities.
Below, I have shared some photos of our trip for you to enjoy! Mia loved the roller coasters so much!
