When I paint my face for Día de los Mu***os, I do it to honor the truth that life and death are inseparable.
Each line and color reminds me that I am part of a that infinite cycle that began infinitely before me and will continue infinitely long after. In those patterns, I carry the presence of my ancestors; their strength, their love, and their memory written across my face.
On November 1, when the veil between life and death is thinner, my painted face becomes more than art—it becomes a bridge. It isn’t about disguise but about recognition, a way of showing I remember and welcome my ancestors back into this world.
