The Aquatic Gardeners Association mourns the passing of our friend, and pillar of the aquatic plant community, Christel Kasselmann. A true icon of the aquarium plant hobby, she was a passionate advocate for the beauty and diversity of aquatic plants, both in the wild and in the aquarium.

Her knowledge, photographs, and collective writings helped countless aquarium enthusiasts better understand and appreciate the underwater plant world. The Aquatic Gardeners Association is grateful for her lasting contributions to our hobby and community.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know and learn from her. The aquatic plant world has lost an irreplaceable treasure. She will be deeply missed.

AGAIAC26 ANNOUNCEMENT! 🔥

We’re looking back to our roots. Just as we once added Riparium for pond-style layouts, we’ve watched classic aquascaping lose its place in modern contests. These layouts are beautiful and masterfully grown, but rarely crack the top rankings today. Inspired by ScapeCrunch’s 2024 Garden Style contest, we reached out to the originators and asked to give it life on our platform.

For 2026, we’re adding “Classic” as a new specialty category. A convergence of the true aquatic plant enthusiast and 1:1 perspective aquascaping, drawing from the foundational styles that brought the AGA contest here.

Don’t worry, the standard Aquatic Garden categories aren’t going anywhere! We hope you’re as excited as we are!
