📣 CALLING ALL PRINTMAKERS!

Myrtle Press is excited to invite printmakers of all levels to apply for this juried open call. Participants will submit minimum images of their work to be reviewed by a guest juror, Summer Ventis, who will select artists that submit quality work, no limit on number of applicants.

Selected artists will create an edition of 13 hand pulled prints. One full set will remain with Verge for their use, and another will be added to the Sac State Archive, and one set will be for exhibitions. In return, each artist will receive a randomly selected collection of 10 prints, offering a meaningful way to grow your personal collection, see a wide range of approaches to printmaking, and build connections within a broader printmaking community.

Participants must be willing to pick up and drop off prints to Myrtle Press in Sacramento, CA. Mailing prints to artists at the end of the print exchange will not be permitted. Pickup will take place during or just after a print social at Myrtle Press, giving everyone a chance to meet, talk about their print, and celebrate printmaking together.

🌼 Pocket Garden, a solo exhibition by is now on view!

Stop by Verge to experience a gallery of forgotten things. Her large-scale sculptures of butterfly clips and bandaids actualize those things we accumulate only to lose out of our pockets or bags. Bird builds space and attention for the trinkets, charms, and detritus that overwhelm our drawers and fill our cabinets. Her sculptural transformations acknowledge the small tokens that we leave behind, unintentional markers of our humanity and a reminder of our inherent human nature to collect.

Gallery Hours:
Thursday - Saturday, 11am-5pm
Sunday, 12-5pm

ON VIEW: June 13 - August 23

Take needle and thread to the next level with our upcoming workshop Coiled Form: Basketry to Sculpture 🧶

Coiling is one of the oldest fiber construction techniques, traditionally used in basketry. This workshop explores how the same stitched coil structure can move beyond the basket to create sculptural form. Students will begin by learning foundational coiling methods used in basketry, focusing on how coils are built, stitched, and shaped. Once the basic structure is established, we will experiment with ways the form can expand beyond functional containers. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exploration, participants will explore scale, rhythm, and shaping strategies that allow the coil to grow upward and outward in organic, freeform expression. This class is designed for anyone curious about fiber as a sculptural material. No prior experience is required.

There are many steps in the process of making a lithograph, all of which require attention to detail, and the final result is something magical! Each student will have an opportunity to create a drawing on a litho stone and print it. Previous printmaking experience appreciated. All materials included in registration fees!

Take a quick look at our upcoming show, Pocket Garden, a solo exhibition by Ari Bird! 👀

In Pocket Garden, Bird imagines an immersive world of forgotten items.

Check out the complete exhibition during the opening reception on June 13th from 5-8pm. 🖼️
