I only have eyes for you, I say. And I mean it. He is the new standard for all things. Everything is beautiful and then there is him --a whole new definition of ultra-beautiful. When he hugged me last, I almost didn’t feel his arms. His skin is my skin: the very temperature and tempo matches mine, or mine to his....

"I created this work toward the beginning of when I realized I had an addictive personality, while on a trip in San Diego in 2018. It reminds me of learning how to swim as a kid, being isolated, and overcoming certain traits while feeling like I’m not able to catch my breath. Many times a drowning sensation would overcome me when I first began to address my defects....

As I walk through the train station, I’m stopped by a man who says that he hopes I have a blessed day, and he is sending me “yellow balls of positive energy.” I’m not exactly sure what this means, but I say “thank you” and keep walking up the stairs. I beat myself up for not having a more theatrical answer. Words: Kyleigh McPhillips. Want to submit a fleeting thought? Send it to [email protected] with "Fleeting Thoughts" in the subject line.

I am dry. Drained. Desert-esque. This month this is not my medium. This month I am phoning it in. This month is all sh*tty first drafts. It doesn’t have to be good, it just has to exist. Six hours after I thought I saw you on the bus, I was still looking over my shoulder. Suddenly I was seeing my hair the way you might have been seeing it - my tangled headphones, my tapping foot, my posture slightly slouched against the glass of the window - all through your eyes instead of mine. I wish I wore something other than this old black hoodie today. Words: Kyleigh McPhillips. Want to submit a fleeting thought? The cut on her arm is thin, beaded at one end with blood. Fresh and untouched. Does she know it’s there or did her paper skin catch on some sharp piece of life and quietly tear? It’s a scratch really, perhaps from a cat. Or maybe… It’s so straight, so shallow like the fast flick of a fast knife. But in such a visible place?...
