Unique and inspiring, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera has reclaimed its place as one of the region’s leading performing arts organizations. In the past five years, the SP&O has made tremendous artistic, community, and fiscal strides through a business model that has solidly moved from one of instabil

ity to one of stability. Today, the SP&O serves as a vibrant cultural asset – one that is shaped by Sacramento, whose offerings are uniquely of Sacramento, and whose vision for the future is designed for Sacramento. The SP&O continues its stellar concerts, education offerings, and engagement programs digitally, which bring the passion of classical music into our audiences' homes for them to enjoy safely. We look forward to returning to our region's concert halls, classrooms, and gathering spaces when it is time and when it is safe. In the meantime, we will continue down the path of sustainability that the last five years have laid the foundation for, and will work collaboratively to further the impact our art form can have for our growing, thriving community.

Join us this June for opera presented at The Sofia!

🎭Three Decembers
🗓️Friday, June 12, 7:30 pm, Sunday, June 14, 2:00 pm
📍The Sofia, Home of B Street Theater

Jake Heggie’s Three Decembers – an intimate chamber opera that follows Broadway star Madeline Mitchell and her two adult children, Bea and Charlie, across three Decembers - 1986, 1996, and 2006. As the years pass, the family grapples with old secrets, personal loss, and the emotional distance left by Madeline’s fame.

With a heartfelt libretto by Gene Scheer, based on a play by Terrence McNally, and a lyrical score by Heggie, Three Decembers is a moving exploration of family, identity, and the ties that endure. Presented in English, this poignant opera brings raw emotion and soaring music to a story that feels achingly familiar.

Love & Death: From Romeo and Juliet to Fauré’s Requiem opens tonight! We are so excited to introduce our wonderful conductor for the evening, Mélisse Brunet!

Renowned as a conductor of “uncommon emotional intensity” (Marie-Celine) and a “force at the podium” (Eugene Scene), American conductor Mélisse Brunet is a native of Paris, France with Spanish and Italian roots. She is quickly gaining attention on both sides of the Atlantic as “a skilled and polished conductor with an excellent pedigree… Brunet led the orchestra with panache and clarity, giving inspiring and assured renditions of each work.” (Cleveland Classical). In July 2022, she became the fifth Music Director of the Lexington Philharmonic, and the first woman to hold the position. She is also in her fifth season as the Music Director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic.

Love & Death: From Romeo and Juliet to Fauré’s Requiem is THIS Saturday! We are so excited to welcome Phoebe Chee as the soprano soloist in Fauré’s Requiem!

Phoebe Chee has been hailed by SPOT as “one of Singapore’s most promising young sopranos.” She is praised for her “strong and consistent range” with “bursts of ferocity and vocal splendors.” In comedic roles, such as Despina and Susanna, Chee has been described as “sweet and sassy” with a masterful comedic timing, but can equally embody the emotional intensity of a tragic protagonist.
